Hi! I'm Rebecca, PhD eager to explore the world by sharing experiences and creating connections. I think that even a brief encounter can leave a big mark, and I'm ready to learn new aspects of life by this means.
I enjoy simple things like dying my hair blue or petting my dogs. Other than that, I like nerdy things (such as animes and board games), working in the lab, art and crafts, music and nature. I also love making friends, singing out loud in concerts and dancing at parties!
When I was a teenager, I began to take care about what is dear to me or things I wanted to make better, like my town, children in need, social issues: the abilities I've learnt there might now be of use. Anyway, most of my skills come from a long lasting experience in theatre and the fact I'm used to travelling and adapt to new places and cultures.
So far, thanks to my WorkAway experiences, I have learned and grown in many ways:
- DIY & house sharing: while living in a beautiful small house under construction in Portugal;
- Animal care & gardening: during my stay on a small farm in Portugal, I took care of different animals and developed some basic gardening skills;
- Community life: In a small community in Spain, I experienced communal living from daily house chores to sharing time and responsibilities with people from different backgrounds. I also helped maintain and work in an olive tree field, contributing to the community’s self-sufficiency;
- Dog sanctuary experience: I spent over a month in a dog sanctuary in Bulgaria, where I was responsible with other volunteers for meeting the daily needs of more than 60 dogs.
P.S. I received a very meaningful review for my time at the dog sanctuary in Bulgaria. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear on my profile, but I’d be happy to share part of it:
"Another very sad morning today saying goodbye to Rebecca from Italy who has been with us just over a month and has been an absolute superstar! Everyone loved her.
She has worked so hard and been through so much and just got on with it and giving her all despite being totally exhausted! She absolutely loved all the dogs and they all loved her. She was such a huge support to me during difficult times when we were really struggling and she learnt the feeding routine which enabled me to have a few afternoons off which is such a blessing for me as I can never get a break or a day off. "
Can't wait to start a new adventure! (:Interests
