We are a family of four from Baltimore, MD, USA and we love traveling and cross-cultural exchange. We love hosting travelers in our home through several organizations (Couchsurfing, Servas, and Warmshowers) and we also enjoy traveling when we are able to. In 2025 we look forward to taking a big 5-6 month trip as a family, and we hope to do some workaway stays during that time.

Max is a family physician and Maya runs an urban flower farm (hillenhomestead.com). We are passionate about the outdoors and the environment, social justice, crafting, food (growing, cooking, eating, and talking about it), cycling, hiking, camping, and building community.

Our kids - Mariana (born 2013) and Maddalena (born 2015) - enjoy reading, arts and crafts, imaginative play, traveling and languages, outdoor activities, and more. As a family we enjoy traveling and meeting other people, and we always like to stay with hosts whenever possible so we can learn about the places we are visiting.

Somos una familia de cuatro de Baltimore, MD, en los Estados Unidos y nos encanta viajar y hacer intercambios de cultura. Nos encanta alojar viajeros en nuestra casa con varias organizaciones (Couchsurfing, Servas y Warmshowers) y también nos gusta viajar cuando podemos. En 2025 esperamos hacer un gran viaje de 5-6 meses, y esperamos hacer algunas workaways durante ese tiempo.

Max es médico de familia y Maya tiene su propio negocio - una granja urbana donde cultiva flores (hillenhomestead.com). Nos encanta la naturaleza, la justicia social, hacer arte, la comida (cultivarla, cocinarla, comerla y hablar de comida), andar en bici, caminar, acampar y crear comunidad.

A nuestros hijas, Mariana ( que nació en 2013) y Maddalena (que nació en 2015), les gusta leer, hacer arte, jugar con la imaginacion, viajar y aprender idiomas, las actividades al aire libre y mucho más. Como familia disfrutamos viajando y conociendo a otras personas, y siempre nos gusta quedarnos con anfitriones para aprender sobre la cultura de los lugares que visitamos.

We are both hardworking and enjoy helping out a lot, and we have also some specific skills to offer.

Farm and garden: Maya is a professional farmer and can help with agriculture projects, gardens, etc. Max also has a good amount of gardening experience.

Cooking: Max is a great cook and baker, and Maya can also cook. The kids each do some cooking/baking and enjoy helping in the kitchen.

Carpentry/Construction: We both have some building experience - mostly working on our own home and also helping Maya's dad with his home repair business. We are both skilled at painting and can do some light carpentry/construction independently or can help out a lot with some guidance.

Childcare/Teaching: We have both worked as camp counselors, babysitters, and outdoor educators and we also enjoy taking care of and teaching our own kids. Happy to help Workaway hosts with childcare, homeschooling, language exchange, etc.

Language Exchange: Neither of us has taught languages professionally, but we each speak 3 languages and enjoy language learning. We are happy to help others with their English and offer language/translation help as needed.

Misc: Beyond these specifics skills, we are both eager to learn and happy to jump in and help wherever we can.
