  • Description

Hello, my name is Laima, I'm 21 years old student from Trakai, Lithuania. Currently I am studying in university for a bachelor degree called "Animal and human interaction". The purpose of my studies is to prepare home pets specialist such as dogs or horse trainers, cats or exotic pets behaviorists. Although my studies is a great way to gain knowledge, I still wish to be learning practical skills as well. Saying that, my biggest workaway expectation is to gain more experience of work with animals (dogs, cats, horses, farm animals etc.) while at the same time exploring new countries and cultures. I have already traveled with workaway for 6 months during which I have visited Norway, Austria and Finland. During that time, I mostly worked in a sled dogs kennel so although I have not taken tourists on tours, I do have bit of experience in driving sleds, ATV and just general care of huskies. In Austria I worked in a horse farm so a bit of farm experience as well. Describing myself shortly - I love animals, nature and travelling and would be happy to provide my help whenever I could.

  • More details about your skills

I have some experience in animal shelter work (mostly walking the dogs, sometimes kennel cleaning, cleaning cats litter boxes, feeding animals) and with husky kennel work. I have been driving sled dogs on sleds and on ATV, when there is not enough snow. I like to be busy, so I am ok with having long days every once in a while. I enjoy spending time in nature a lot, so I am happy to be away from the city in more rural areas, yet, at the same time I love to meet new people. My work experience consist mostly of being a barista or waitress so working with people is nothing new to me. I like to consider myself as a fit, active, kind, friendly and hardworking nature and animals lover. I am sure I could spent my workaway experience somewhere taking care of animals, communicating with visitors when needed, helping with household tasks.

  • What else ...

Some of my hobbies are sports. When I was younger I spent about 5 years practising kyokushin karate, now I am continuing my karate practise in shotokan. I am interested in archery as well. One of my favourite free time activities - hiking. Some young people can't imagine their life without city activities. In my situation, I grew up in countryside finding my happiness in more simple things, like sky full of stars or that smell of trees in the autumn. I'd say that I feel happiest doing something active outdoors and spending time around animals.
