  • Description

    Hi,

My name is Leopold, I'm 21 and I come from Quebec, Canada. I've traveled a lot and I love the outdoors. I am currently studying in environment at Sherbrooke's University, in Qc, Canada, and I am looking for a 3-4 months Internship in January 2024. I know it's not a common request but I think I can be of great help and your projects will grow a lot faster because you won't need to train someone new every 2 weeks. I have to work at least 35h/week, so I have plenty of time to work on the different projects. It's supposed to be a paid internship but I if I am housed and fed, the University can accept it. All I really want in return is new knowledge about the local environment and ecosystems. I am mostly looking for a conservation and restauration project, but I can also do farm work and gardening, if needed. Even if it's in a while, I need to find it soon if i want to apply for financial aid for the plane ticket.

What would describe me the most is my curiosity. I like to learn about all kinds of stuff and i love to meet new people. I like to discover new places, new ecosystems and new cultures, so I am willing to go on anything that can be called an adventure. I am used to be far from home and I don't need much to be satisfied. I love bird watching, hiking, camping, canoe and music. And if I can, I would love to learn about self-sufficiency, food forests and off-grid living.

On my last jobs I had a lot of independence so I had to develop my autonomy and show a lot of initiative. I am well organized and when I put my head to something, I do it well. As I said, my curiosity is one of the main features of my personality, so I love trying new things. I don't care about working hard, bad weather and bugs, as long as what I do has meaning to me.

If you want someone that you can depend on to help your project(s) grow, who is motivated and has always new ideas, you can count on me!

I know it is quite a commitment and it's in a long time, so we could meet on teams/zoom or have a phone call before making any real plan to be sure we are both looking for same things.

ps: My last name is belleau-magnat if you want to contact me on facebook and my email is belleaumagnatl@gmail.com.

  • More details about your skills

I know a lot about Quebec's ecosystems and nature in general. I love bird watching and I am good with plants. I am currently in a beekeeping comity at school and another one that does mushroom growing. I studied 2 years to become a biology technician where I learned a lot about ecosystems and their complexity and to be rigorous when working. I am becoming quite good in plant and bird identification, so I should adapt quite easily in a new environment.

I worked in canoe-camping circuit maintenance in a national park las summer and we had to take care of the camping sites and the trails that were only accessible by water. I am confident with a chainsaw and I can ride boats. We were a team of five and went on expeditions of 3 to 5 days, so I gained a lot of team working skills. We also created camping sites and new trails. There was a lot of mosquitos and it really was physical work, but the results were tangible, so the gratification was great. It was hard, but it was fun.

I like to experiment in the kitchen so I learned how to make sourdough bread, tempeh, sauerkraut and other homemade stuff. I also know some meals that can be easily dehydrated for expeditions, if we want to go out for a few days. And recently, I have done some dumpster diving, so I can easily make do with what i have.

  • What else ...

I'm open to any adventure that comes my way. I like outdoor sports (canoe, kayak, hiking, running and anything new), music (I play guitare and I want to take back the trumpet) and books (when I find a good one).
I dream to gain self-sufficiency one day and be able to create a food forest that could be a completely self-sustaining ecosystem. For that, I need knowledge and time. But for the time being, I have too many projects to do and places to visit before I can settle down for this one.
