  • Description

    Good morning, day, or evening!

Whether it is taking care of children, getting to know you and your family, doing outdoor activities, cleaning, charity work or simply spending time with people, I am very excited to have new experiences and learn more about life while in Japan.

My name is Leia, and I am currently travelling Japan with my friend Olivia! Since I was a child I have always loved Japanese manga and anime, and my family has watched most of the Studio Ghibli films at least a dozen times. During my early teenage years, I also enjoyed the Japanese fashion style Kawaii and used to wear pink fluffy skirts and dresses every day to school. Since then I have changed a lot, but my interest in Japan continues. Here in Japan I would like to learn to speak more Japanese and about the everyday life and traditions of Japanese people, and I think a lovely way of doing that is living with a host!

I have been described as a "renaissance woman", as someone who can do a lot of different things. I have tried climbing, surfing, sailing, swimming, playing saxophone, zip-lining, gymnastics, singing, and drawing to name some. I am a very open-minded person who welcomes new ideas, personalities, and activities, and I always try my best at what I do. I have a strong sense of responsibility, and whether it is cleaning, cooking, or gardening for example, I always try my best, and am grateful for any feedback on how to get better! I always strive for self-improvement and I believe working with hosts on Workaway is a perfect opportunity for me to try new things and grow!

Thank you for reading my description!

    Kids:
Since the winter of 2023 I have worked part time as a gymnastics teacher, working with children from 2 to 8 years old. I love to see them open up, develop, and gain confidence in themselves. When I was younger I did gymnastics for 9 years, and I would be happy to share this skill with anyone who is interested!
    Cleaning:
During the summer of 2024 I worked at the Gröna Lund amusement park as a cleaner, where I found a lovely community of colleagues whom I loved working together with! At the amusement park I learned many skills such as cleaning kitchen floors and public restrooms, sweeping and cleaning indoor/outdoor areas and buildings, as well as removing dust and spider webs. I love the feeling of accomplishment once something is clean!
    Language/Culture:
I spent about nine months living in Lima, Peru, where I attended the American international school, Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt. This experience made me fluent in English and I can still speak a little bit of Spanish.
    Outdoor Activitiy:
I have always loved doing outdoor activities, and since I was a child I have skied, ice skated, hiked and camped many times with my family. When I was a child I joined a scout troop which I was part of for for 7 years, and learned many skills such as sailing, building campfires, cutting firewood, and living in the wilderness. Once I experienced sleeping in a tent when it was -26°C!
    Creative Skills:
In high school I took the visual art program where we tried all kinds of art forms such as sketching, painting, making sculptures, digital art and mixed media art! From 4th to 9th grade I was in a musical program, where we learned to sing, dance, and act and we did about 1-2 musicals a year. I also joined the school musical both in Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and the school musical in my last year of high school. I joined the high school choir too, and I would love to share these hobbies with anyone who's interested!
