Description
I am a young educator from northern California currently traveling. I am hoping to make connections abroad while practicing my language skills (Spanish) and enjoying outdoor activities! In 2018, I spent a semester studying public health and traditional medicine in Arica, Chile, and traveled throughout Patagonia. My semester in Chile ignited my passion for travel, and it was such an amazing adventure. I returned to Chile in early 2021 and spent 6 weeks working at a backpacker hostel in Pucón before returning to Patagonia to continue exploring the beautiful cultural and recreational opportunities that the region has to offer.
I love rock climbing and hiking, cooking, playing music, teaching, and working with my hands. I work in outdoor education with middle and high school-age students, leading outdoor trips all across California. I am looking to continue building my leadership skills and eventually lead expeditions for students abroad. I am hoping that through my workaway experience I will get the chance to explore opportunities related to teaching and intercultural learning! I would love to work on projects involving outdoor education/recreation and ecotourism and I am also very interested in learning about local food systems and sustainable agriculture. I love traveling independently and learning about local culture from adventurous, creative, and open-minded people. Workaway has been a great way for me to do this.Interests

I have extensive experience working with youth (between the ages of 4-18) in classroom settings as well as outdoor settings. I have taught wilderness skills, leave no trace ethics, natural history, geology, astronomy, and marine biology in addition to instructing various outdoor activities including snorkeling, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, and hiking. I have strong leadership and group management skills. I have also worked as a backpacking guide which requires strong organizational skills and customer service.
I have a wilderness first responder medical certification and an interest in health and medicine.
I studied Spanish language and Latin American culture in college, and I speak Spanish conversationally. I am creative and artistically-inclined with a background in mural painting, drawing, and basic sewing. I love to cook and bake and have lots of experience with plant-based cooking specifically.
I am a quick learner and a great collaborator!Age
