Hey there!
We are two girls, 21 and 22 years old, from a little town near Barcelona (20 minutes away from the capital city).
We know each other since we were kids and we have a lot of things in common.

We are both very artistic 🎨,
animal and nature lovers 🌿,
and we enjoy being around kids 👧🏻!

We love listening to music, write and talk about our feelings, painting, drawing and we are both nail artists!

It is a pleasure for us to take care of animals, we enjoy their company as we enjoy keeping them healthy, clean and happy. For us, being with animals is an exchange of love, comprehension and peace.

Being around kids is not a challenge to us; Anais has been a babysitter for a long time. As we are artistic, we like to play games with them, making crafts and we also like to share our knowledge and happiness with children!

In our free time we enjoy going onto adventures, we live in a town surrounded by forest, nature for us is therapeutic 🌿

We are willing to expand our experience in another country, taking care with whatever you need and improving our English!

We follow a vegetarian diet and we are interested in getting to know more about natural diets, cultivated in our own orchard🌱

We enjoy cooking our traditional Spanish and Catalan meals, we like shopping in our local stores to make the most delicious dishes! It would be a pleasure to tell you about our culture!

Hey! Here are some of our skills; taking care of children, taking care of animals and artistic expression, like drawing, painting and DIY's.
Anais is good at english as she has B2 level, she has been teaching in an english academy in our town, although we both want to improve our level! 🗣️
She has also been a babysitter for a long time and working in a school doing "out-of-shcool" activities (DIY's, musical theatre...) 👧🏻🧒🏼
She has also studies in professional makeup, nail art and characterisation and has been in many film shootings. 🎭👩🏻‍🎤🎨

Laia is good at arts since she was a little kid. She has graphic design and illustation studies. She is also a nail artist.🎨
She has been a dog groomer during this year and assistant in a pets shop that colaborates with many animal shelters (also interested in animals nutrition).🐩🐈

Our stay with Sean, Leslie and Cuán was lovely.
We only stayed for a week, but both the work we have been doing and the cultural exchange were excellent, due to Sean and Leslie's sense of being extremely understanding and kind to us.

Anais and Laia came as a pair to volunteer at my house in Killarney from 7 October to 7 November. Before arriving I made it clear about the types of jobs that I needed help with and that a large majority of the jobs were outside. I advised on the type of clothing that would be suitable due to the weather we can have in Ireland. They also stated… read more they were vegetarians and would cook their own food and I would provide the ingredients.

For the first week, the food situation was okay. It was sometimes awkward because they would eat separately from everyone else or sit at the table on their phones. As the time went on, their work effort drastically changed. During their 5 hour work time, a minimum amount of work was done. Some examples include: spending 5 hours sanding one side of one door using an electric sander, spending two hours to clean a bathroom, spending 5 hours to paint one door frame, spending 5 hours to sand a ceiling and when I checked, I couldn’t see anything different. I spoke many times about amount of time it was taking to complete each task. They stated they didn’t want to work outside in the rain and were physically unable to dig dirt in the garden. This is my 9th set of volunteers that I have hosted, and have never experienced this before.

I also have basic rules in my house about cleaning up the kitchen after you use it, putting dishes away, drying your clothes on the line, and opening your window in your bedroom when you are outside working to allow in fresh air. Each of these rules had to be reminded multiple times. Then the food became an issue because instead of cooking their own food they started asking me to buy convenience food for them like pizzas, lasagna, dumplings, and quorn products that could just be heated in the oven. These are products I very rarely by my own family. Before they committed to coming, I also stated that drinks are not provided, yet they went into my cupboards and drank my son’s juice boxes and even left the empty boxes on the counter. One evening, they messaged me at 9pm at night to tell me they were going out for Halloween and wouldn’t be working the next day. I was never asked if this was okay and I told them they had to work because I had budgeted their help to have a room ready for a new volunteer. The final straw, was I had gone to the shops in the morning to get their shopping items and come home to find they had put their clothes in the tumbler dryer without even asking.

They left 2 days before their committed time which I was okay with since my house was not a good fit for them. I did ask them to clean their room and bathroom before they left, but it was done in a subpar way and I had to clean it again myself before it was ready for someone else to use.

On a positive note, they were very sweet with my 2 year old son. I feel that they have a lot to learn about volunteering and would best suit either a childcare position or a job that was being constantly supervised with fixed hours.
