We are motivated by service to others - we have always sought volunteer opportunities that allow us to bring our skills, as well as learn new ones, to our communities in the USA as well as others abroad. We have served as Peace Corps Volunteers in Africa and Southeast Asia because we love learning about other cultures and learning new languages. We thrive in natural settings - gardening, hiking, swimming are all activities that bring us joy.

We would love to work on developing and increasing our levels of Spanish. Kate started learning when our kids were young in a Spanish immersion program, and then taught 8 years in a Spanish/English program. Tim is starting to study Spanish now.Skills and knowledge we'd like to share or learn

We both have a year of experience in community development working with small non governmental organizations in Billings, Montana. We have worked over three years in Africa and Asia as agriculturalists, educators and community based health volunteers. We have many practical skills related to cooking, gardening, landscaping and home repair and maintenance. We volunteer in a food pantry that supports families in our community. We are sponsoring a Ukrainian family that was displaced by war. We have been extensively trained to thrive in a cross culture setting.
Kate is a teacher by training, having taught preschool and elementary school levels as a special education teacher, but wearing other hats as well, such as English teacher, school gardener, and teacher mentor. She has years of experience as a school garden teacher volunteer (but also worked garden design and work into her formal teaching experiences), focusing on native plants, pollinators, food, and culturally relevant plants. Kate managed different groups of volunteers to build and maintain garden projects in three separate school settings. She recently started pottery, and is interested in exploring other arts. Kate is a Rotary member and serves on the club’s foundation.
Tim has a wide range of environmental, public health and emergency response experience. Key examples include supporting Afghan refugees entering the United States, working on Hurricane recovery in Florida, and developing programs to prevent and respond to environmental disasters. We both enjoy working on our home and gardens.Age
