I am currently in Nepal and wanting to do the langtang valley trek from the 10/11th of May if anyone would like to join!
Description
I have sporadically travelled over the last few years, visiting a town here or a city there, and never staying for too long. Despite these short stays, I luckily still managed to catch the travel bug and I am now wanting to solo travel across Europe and Asia for at least half a year.
This is why I have created a Workaways profile as I believe it is a great way to explore and immerse yourself in a place while meeting and becoming a part of a whole variety of communities. I love exploring new spots and uncovering hidden gems which I cant wait to do on Workaways and I am also very keen to meet people from all walks of life, hear their stories and share in the beauty of travelling.
I would like to think I am a pretty easy going guy who loves to have a good laugh and really enjoy having good conversations, no matter the topic. I always try and listen more than I speak and believe there is something to be learned with every interaction we have. Some of my hobbies include, swimming, hiking, just being in nature, listening to music and reading about a whole range of things but especially history and philosophy.
I also believe Workaways is a great way to travel more sustainably and help give back to the areas you travel to. I would also like to live more sustainably in general and would love to learn about ways of achieving that, whether it be permaculture farming, carpentry or sustainable energy. I find myself feeling less and less inspired and hopeful by the world I live in now and meeting communities who have taken a different path could be just the spark needed to feel inspired again.
I have volunteered in one workaway before, a Buddhist centre in the UK and absolutely loved the experience and it is what inspired me to seek out many more workaways. I have also travelled to various countries in Europe and Asia such as Croatia, France, Turkey and Vietnam. I absolutely loved these experiences, met so many incredible people and became even closer with the friends and family I travelled with.
The country I grew up in, South Africa, is an adventure itself and I was lucky enough to explore a lot of it and met a wide variety of people and places. I also road tripped through other Southern African countries like Malawi and Zimbabwe where my friends and I drove around in a car that loved to break down which led to a few close calls but also a bunch of unforgettable memories. Growing up in and exploring this beautiful part of the world has helped nurture my wanderlust to see and meet as many beautiful places and people as possible.
I am so excited for all the travels to come and cannot wait to meet new friends and make lifelong memories.Interests

More details about your skills
The skills I could bring to a workaways are varied. I have experience painting whether it be walls, doors or smaller things like cupboards. I also have experience with some simple DIY skills such as drilling, repairing various things like doors and walls. I have also worked with an experienced carpenter and helped him out with sanding down, sawing, and putting up doors and cupboards.
Although it is not an area of expertise, I have done a lot of gardening and some landscaping, whether it be pruning, picking or weeding and putting in new plants. I thoroughly enjoyed this and love getting my hands dirty. I have a lot to learn when it comes to DIY and gardening and farming skills and one of the reasons why I would love to do a Workaways is to learn more about this from people who are immersed in these skills everyday.
I also have experience as a waiter/server in South Africa where in was also a barista and bar-tender at times. This work required a lot of interaction with the customers and we also helped set up and host one or two events at the restaurant.
I have also done housekeeping at another workaways where I helped iron, clean and remake rooms, cook for big groups of people and set up snack bars when the workaways had events.
I am not particularly skilled in one area, especially when it comes to manual labour, but i would love to learn more and get stuck in and help in any way I can.Age

What else ...
I also really enjoy things like foraging, learning more about nature and how to live more in harmony with it. I am also an avid reader and love history and philosophy especially and am always to chat about it whenever I can. I also love listening to music of all genres and it is one of my biggest passions. I can unfortunately not play any instruments (and definitely cant sing) but would love to pick up some playing skills.
I also really enjoy doing relaxing things like painting, writing, card and board games and just horsing about and having fun. I also really enjoy cooking, especially barbequing (or braaing in South Africa!) and would love to learn more recipes from around the world and get more into baking.
All in all, I am very excited to meet new people, explore beautiful places, learn more life skills such as DIY and farming and I will approach going into workaways with an open-mind and trying to take in as much as possible. Some more information
