Mexico - from Apr 2025 until Sep 2025 View allDescription
Two important parts of my life are travel and art—I believe they’re two of the best ways to understand perspectives that, at first glance, might seem completely different from your own. Both open up space to ask questions and spark curiosity.
I’m a theatre director with a philosophy degree, so asking questions is at the heart of everything I do! My theatre practice focuses on creating spaces for open discussions and meaningful connections. I work in physical and immersive theatre, as well as puppetry, and one of the things I love most is that I get to spend so much of my time as an adult intensely playing. I take silliness very seriously.
This playful, creative style of living has also led me quite naturally to working a lot with children—from running kids’ birthday parties to leading theatre summer courses. I love how children bring their own sense of curiosity and openness, which always inspires my work.
I’ve spent the last three years living in Australia, working at arts festivals across the country. In 2024, I worked and performed at eight different festivals, putting on three new theatre pieces and creating large-scale puppets (I’m talking the size of a car!) for roaming performances at music festivals. It’s been an incredible journey—Australia has been amazing—but as someone from the UK, I’ve found the culture quite similar and, of course, the language the same.
Now, I’m ready for the next chapter in my world-roaming adventure. I want to challenge myself by diving into a place with a completely new culture and language. I’ve been learning Spanish for six months (still a beginner, but I’m getting there!), and I’m excited to immerse myself in a community where I can grow both personally and creatively.
I want to live somewhere I could never have imagined until I arrived and meet people whose life experiences are wildly different from my own. That’s where the real inspiration comes from.
My goals are to learn Spanish and get involved in community arts projects—whether that means making puppets for one of Mexico’s amazing festivals, running theatre workshops, creating art pieces, or simply following chance and seeing where this creative journey takes me. I’m excited to connect with people, share skills, and be part of projects that celebrate creativity and community in all its forms.Interests

I've been learning Spanish with a Mexican tutor for 6 months. A big part of me coming to Mexico is to learn the language. I'd love to to live with people who spoke very little English to immerse myself in the language. That being said, I spent a couple years tutoring English to kids looking to get into good UK universities so feel very confident in, and would love to, teach English in return.Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

More details about your skills
I’m a people person who loves bringing energy and creativity into everything I do. I’m passionate about working with young people and being part of events that bring communities together. I’ve run two theatre companies over the last ten years, so I love making things happen. I can organise, adapt and love to jump one challenge to the next.
I also used to work as an outdoor activities educator on an island off the coast of Scotland, teaching kayaking, abseiling, hiking, and camping to inner-city kids from Glasgow and across the UK. During that time, I lived in a shed with no electricity, reading by candlelight, so I’m no stranger to simple living—and I loved it! I spent a lot of time working in the garden and the kitchen, and I’ve developed a real passion for cooking. I’d be more than happy to jump straight into the kitchen at any Workaway opportunity!
In a pervious workaway in Queensland, Australia, I spent a month refurbishing a canoe – sanding, varnishing, painting until she was ready to be taken back out onto the water. I love this sort of physical, long-term project.
Other passions of mine include juggling (I promise I can teach anyone, even if you have two left hands!), playing jazz trombone, and, more recently, embracing the challenge of ice baths. I’m also learning Spanish and would love to practice, and of course, I’m equally happy to teach English in return.Age
