Hi everyone,

My name is Karina, and I joined Workaway January 2023.

I didn't get to travel all that much last year, but will be making up for that this year with a trip from February to August. I want to see parts of the world I've long wanted to travel to, and hopefully learn some new creative skills along the way!

I live in Berlin, Germany but have roots in Ireland. My first destination with Workaway was Italy, where I spent time working in two different beautiful locations with hosts on their gardens and houses. I'm very happy to have experienced these stays in Italy and can't wait for my next adventures!

I'm fluent in English and German, and I'm really quite good with my hands. Currently I'm working with inner bike tubes, designing fun accessories, and am especially interested in learning more about the use of sewing machines, any tools used in crafting work, and lately, pottery and painting with acrylics.

I have a deep love of nature, and love working outdoors (the past two years I spent cycling around in all weather conditions!). Sustainability has also been a long-term passion and I even used to work as a consultant in this area some time ago.

I love plants and animals! Being around animals gives me great joy, and I've spent time with cats, dogs and even some octopuses! I've also volunteered previously as a photographer for charity sport events, and for a German language conversation group for women in my neighbourhood. I've also worked as a tour director in Europe and have a lot of experience with customer facing roles.

I love meeting new people, but also value my time to myself to recharge and do self care (I regularly do yoga, meditate and go to the gym).

I'm looking forward to the new adventures ahead! :)

In a previous career I worked in sustainability, as a consultant to the building industry. A lot of that knowledge is pretty mainstream nowadays, but I still have a good grasp of passive design principles.

I'm a fast learner and am physically fit, so if there are tasks I don't know yet, I'm happy to learn (I've spent the last ten years job-wise taking on new roles I'd never done before and love it!).

I'm a crafty person and have experience in making items out of rubber, clay and paper-mache. Right now I'm trying to build a business reusing inner bicycle tubes to make accessories and outfits.

I love plants and animals!

I like to take photographs of people, landscapes, and random stuff. I've not updated this in some time but can give you a link to my Flickr account if you're interested.

I can teach you about face -yoga and -massage, making Sauerkraut, water kefir, paper-mache, photography and good interior lighting! I've also had plenty of experience working in offices and using computers and providing good customer care.

I spent a few years during college life art modelling for art schools and individual artists, in case any artists need someone to model for them.

What else ...

I really like making things out of various materials. At the moment it's rubber, years ago it was making animals out of paper mache, and in the future I'd like it to be some more pottery (I already made a few pots and cups over ten years ago so it's definitely time!).
I like playing board games (as long as someone can explain the rules to me, I'm in!).

I love music. It's hard to pinpoint a favourite genre, but mostly these days it's House, Ambient, Pop (mostly 1980s-2010s), most trip hop from the late 90s.
