  • Description

Hello there! We are Houston and Kaeley, a couple in their early 30's, from the U.S. We have been together for over 6 years. About 18 months ago we decided to make our escape from the corporate rat race, quitting our full-time jobs to embark on a life-long dream of traveling the world. With a significant amount of research, planning, and, of course, saving up every spare cent (along with a large dose of luck & privilege), we have been fortunate along our travels, having had the opportunity to journey through South & Central America, S. Africa, Europe (primarily the Balkans), Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia. We’ve moved around a lot these past 18 months and are now looking forward to slowing down, spending more time in one place, settling into a daily regimen, and experiencing life from another perspective with a sense of purpose. We’re excited to meet new people from the Workaway community, picking up new skills, experiences, life-lessons. Wishing you all the best! And hope to see you soon!!

  • More details about your skills

Houston: Growing up, I had many low-skill labor jobs including, lawn care/landscaping, general labor construction, painting, roofing, even meat processing (deer). Through my early twenties, I worked primarily in residential & commercial construction, as a general labor supervisor & novice jack-of-all-trades, and also as a freelance handyman. In my post-university professional life, I've worked as a construction engineer & manager in the Heavy Civil / Infrastructure industry, primarily working on road, bridge, and land development projects. In my free time, I enjoy woodworking, general crafting, and gardening, as well as exercising, cooking, and reading.

Kaeley: A little bit about me! I am half American, half South African, I’ve lived in 10 countries, and consider myself a Third Culture Kid. I got the travel bug from a very young age and have used every opportunity possible to see as much of the world as I can. I even studied abroad in the Netherlands to obtain my Master of Science in Work and Organizational Psychology from Maastricht University.

Apart from traveling and immersing myself in new cultures, I am also a huge animal lover, having taken care of a dog and, most recently, an elderly cat as pets. I am an avid scuba diver having dived in Mexico, Florida, Thailand, South Africa, and Indonesia. A dream of mine is to one day do a scuba live-a-board in the Philippines. Anything involving the ocean or water, I am all about it (snorkeling, kayaking, SUP). I have also dabbled in some surfing (still very beginner), and tried wind surfing.

I am passionate about helping others, enjoy organizing activities or planning events and am honing my social media skills. I am all game to try anything new and will put 100% into whatever I am working on.

In my free time you can find me blogging about our travels, enjoying a good book, cooking, taking pictures, and, when we used to have our own place, gardening (vegetables & tropical plants)!

I look forward to meeting Workaway hosts and fellow Workawayers!
