  • Description

I am a middle child with two brothers. My family are very friendly and I consider myself to fit that description as well.

We have a dog who has been such a great source of love and wonder in my life and has really inspired me to pursue a canine related career. The work I am most proud of and fascinated by that I have achieved in my life is raising my dog and to have gotten the chance to volunteer at a local Dogs Trust rescue centre. I have worked with such a wide and dynamic range of dogs including German Sheperds, St Bernards, Border Collies, Springer Spaniels, Cocker Spaniels, Rottweilers, Greyhounds, Labradors and Salukis to name just a few. I find myself in complete admiration for all dog breeds and I can never see my interest and love for them ever fading.

Volunteering for Dogs Trust also inspired me to run The Great North Run, a half marathon located in Newcastle, to help raise money to help fund their selfless efforts in rescuing dogs. I have always been a fan of running and of half marathons, I in fact ran The Junior Great North Run when I was much younger. I knew when I ran in aid of Dogs Trust that I was very aware of the deeply meaningful cause as I took on the challenge. It really helped me to push myself in the build up to the race and throughout the entire race itself, it was a great feeling both physically and mentally.

I also love meeting people from around the world. For example meeting travellers in hostels and exchanging stories and meeting new families in new countries. I would say I am very good at blending into the camaraderie of groups and places I have never been before.

More details about my language interests
I love the idea of being able to speak another language. I have studied French and German but I have only skimmed the surface of these languages. I love the idea of being immersed in the culture of a country and learning a language in a more authentic and natural way. I have also picked up some Italian having spent several months there. I think it is a beautiful language.

  • More details about your skills

I have completed the John muir award which I enjoyed a lot because it allowed me to get outside and learn about nature in a very intimate way.
I used to work in a pub called The Fetherston Arms as a pot wash and helped out preparing food, which gave me a good taste of gritty and grubby hard work.
I have also worked in a cooperative interacting with the public; stacking shelves; completing important post office tasks involving valuable items and also general maintenance. I have 11 GCSE’s including a 7 in drama and fives in maths and english from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Penrith. I also have 3 a-levels in drama, history and English from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School. I have also studied music at Carlisle College where I received a UAL level 3 extended diploma in music performance and production and I have studied guitar playing for many years since I was 9, studying both classical and mainstream focused practices.
I have also done work experience at an Outward Bound centre located by Ullswater lake, helping groups of children with exercises such as gill scrambling; swimming and team work activities.
I have also been a Dogs Trust volunteer for well over a year and have learnt a lot about behaviour in dogs and how to deal with several different breeds of dogs in different ways.
I have also done a lot of mountain biking in my time especially at a forest named Whinlatter. During my time in Italy as an au pair, biking was also something I really loved to do. I was living very close to the alps so some of the roads were completely amazing as a place to go biking.
I have done bouldering in France with my family. I have also been climbing several times at a place called Eden Rock in Carlisle as well and it is an activity that crops up in my life here and there. It is an occasional hobby I love to get involved in.
I also love reading and have enjoyed reading the autobiographies of Keith Richards and Bob Dylan. I also loved the autobiography of Kerry Irving who is an inspirational dog lover who is from my local area and has had an extraordinary life filled with captivating accomplishments and is someone who makes me very proud of my local home region.
I love football and rugby too, I used to play both sports for school and club and I still participate in club football. I have also represented my home county of Cumbria in fell running.
I also love chess. I don’t play as much anymore but I used to go to after school chess clubs as a student and was the best on my primary school team many moons ago and still enjoy games on holiday when relaxing.
I have also worked in a cafe at Lowther Castle serving food and drinks and helping the chefs prepare their food and equipment, as well as mopping and cleaning down each area at the end of every shift.

I enjoy drawing and coming up with stories. I enjoy playing cards especially gin rummy and poker (not in casinos).
I try and partake in yoga as often as I can when I find an opportunity, even though I’m not as good at it as I would like to be. I also enjoy go karting and skiing. I have done dry ski slope training in Carlisle and have been skiing in Austria twice.
I also take pleasure in Go Ape style adventures as well as kayaking and paddle boarding. I love mountainous strolls and have walked up endless fells as well as having trekked to the highest point in England.
