  • Description

Hi there, we are Joy and Leander. A free-minded and adventurous couple that is looking to start a new life somewhere in the tropics close to the water. We are looking for some interesting experiences to learn from and discover this way of life.

We're interested in the way people live, think, and how they approach life. Helping other people with their needs is something that contributes to our happiness as well. We love the ocean, new adventures, being creative, living mindfully and dancing around a fire on the beach.

We're both inspired by nature, permaculture, self-consciousness, community living, health, ancient wisdom and new ways of thinking. We hope to soon create our own place where people can live in harmony with nature, others and themselves.

We're currently living and working at Leander's dad's farm in the South of Chile. Here we work mainly with cattle, bees, alpacas, chickens & ducks. Furthermore, we also manage the greenhouse, orchard, and vegetable garden for personal use. As with any family farm, the type of day-to-day activities and needed skills range widely, from making strategic decisions to arranging logistics to hands-on dirty farm work. We also worked together on a sailing catamaran, doing day charters as a captain & hostess/deckhand.

In our free time, we also work on creative projects like processing our alpaca wool into clothing, woodwork projects, making delicious jams from our seasonal fruits, or cooking up an elaborate family dinner. Besides that we like to spend time on our own, practicing meditation, doing yoga, and playing music. We're both resourceful and flexible people, open to any experience that can teach us something.

Joy graduated in Social-Cultural Work. She loves working with people and different cultures all over the world. She did some internships working with male migrants from Africa, young children, unemployed young adults, and youth that normally had to go to prison but received a second chance from the judge participating in a program called YAR (Youth at Risk). A few years ago she started working as a student in bars and different summer festivals as a bartender and a waitress. She's currently experimenting with crochet, natural dyeing, and making her own clothes. She loves to harvest flowers and fresh fruits and vegetables to make delicious food. Her native language is Dutch but she's also fluent in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.

Leander is an all-round handy guy and a people person. He graduated in marketing and worked as a project manager, online marketer, and website developer, mostly self-employed. He also worked as a certified surf coach for five years during the summer while studying and volunteered in NGOs in Brazil while traveling. He Hitchhiked across Europe and Central America, crossed the Atlantic on a sailboat (as crew) and he built a campervan from scratch, including a complete 12v solar setup, electrical circuits, woodwork, and basic plumbing. Recently he finished a year-long permaculture course with Geoff Lawton and is looking now to integrate his learnings with more practical experiences.
As he is half Belgian and half Chilean, he is fluent in Dutch and Spanish but also in Portuguese and English.
