My next destination:
Malawi - from Apr 2024 until May 2024 View allDescription
Hello there! My name is Joshua, and I love the outdoors and people! I studied Biology and Indigenous Studies at the University of Victoria in Canada and like rock climbing, backcountry camping, and birdwatching in my spare time. I crave challenging adventure but refuel with quiet contemplation and reflection. I have experience in philanthropy and working with youth, which has fueled my heart to learn more about the world around me and the unique individuals that inhabit it. I love to learn and to teach, which I hope to do more of in the years to come.
My goals in travelling are to build meaningful connections with people of diverse backgrounds, experience biodiverse wildlife, and come out of it with a new idea of the world around me.
I hope that you can be apart of it!Interests

My job experience includes camp maintenance, park interpretation, and fishery data entry.
The camp maintenance involved keeping the ground clean, fixing structures, and mowing the grass. The second year, I was given the responsibility of pool operator, where I was in charge of water testing, chemically balancing three pools, and operating pumps. This job also included the use of heavy machinery such as tractors.
I spent a summer as a Park Interpreter/Naturalist at E.C. Manning Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada. This involved creating and presenting entertaining and educational programs about animals to kids and families.
Most recently I have worked as a Data Technician with Archipelago Marine Research monitoring the geoduck, shrimp, tuna, and salmon fisheries on the West Coast of Canada. This job involved entering data into databases and liaising with fishing vessels, buyers, and the government.
My volunteer experience involves leading a campaign with Habitat for Humanity that raised $124,000 CAD to build a house for a low income family. Involved was numerous public speaking opportunities across North America.
For the past 5 years, I have also volunteered as a youth leader with Young Life which provides mentoring relationships with teens as they navigate life.
I am a hard worker and physically strong. I work well in a team and independently, knowing when to lead and when to follow instruction. Most of my jobs have involved working outdoors, which I enjoy. I also love to smile and talk with people!Age
