Hi, my name is Jon. I’m on an extended trip abroad for the next 12 months. I’m a little bit older than most travellers, I suppose. That’s because I enjoyed a long and successful career as a journalist and broadcaster back in Australia. I’m passionate about having unique and genuine experiences on my travels, and meeting and connecting with unfamiliar communities and people. Learning whilst travelling is my focus. Whether that lesson is skills-based or cultural makes no difference. I’m passionate about English, and cross-cultural communication more broadly. I’m an avid reader, and a sub-par guitarist. The workaways that I want to participate in are mainly focused on English teaching, community projects, and sustainability. My upbringing in regional Australia has also given me many practical skills, including welding, construction, animal husbandry etc. I’m eager to lend my time and skills to your project.

I’m an avid reader and capable public speaker as a result of my previous work as a reporter. I am eager to gain experience teaching English, with the goal of completing a TEFL course and continuing to teach abroad. I also aim to learn a second language whilst travelling.

Before deciding to travel overseas, I worked as a journalist and broadcaster for more than five years. I’m excited to share my passion for writing and speaking in intelligent, but accessible style. I also have advanced skills in videography and photography as a result of my career in journalism. In addition, I have several basic certifications in more hands-on areas, including construction, agriculture, engineering and mechanics. Personally, I love to cook, and I’m trying to learn guitar and a second language on my travels.
