  • Description

Hi, my name is Jeanne. I'm an illustrator and graphic designer from Hamburg, Germany. Let me tell you - Germany can be dull and grey from time to time so I'm always on the lookout for new adventures and experiences. I studied in Ireland and have been dreaming of moving back to that beautiful island ever since. One fine day I would love to start a small holding on a little piece of land, with chickens, goats, runner ducks (and whatnot) and of course a big vegetable garden. However, as much as I love animals and gardening - I have to admit I know quite little about proper farming. I have done tons of research, looked at how other people organize their permaculture food forests, care for their pygmy goats and build chicken coups to a degree where I was thinking "I could do that". But I know how far apart theory and practice can be and that's why I'm here, looking for any opportunity to get some hands-on experience. Besides that though, I want to get to know country life. Having grown up in a big, noisy city I have always yearned for the peace and quiet of nature. I love going for hourlong walks, hiking, scuba diving, cycling... I also love meeting new friends, talking about god and the world and sharing good stories 'til the cows come home... and I suppose a Workaway experience won't fall short of that :-)

  • More details about your skills

I am an illustrator and graphic designer but I promise I can do more than paint you a picture to stick on your fridge! :-) - Of course if you need help with computers, advertising for your project, taking photos for a website or want to learn about Adobe programs like Photoshop I can sure help with that but I also have more practical skills:

    - Everything around the house - I visit my grandparents every other week to help with chores around the house, fixing stuff and everything they come up with. So I was trained to be "maid of all work" by the best people in the world :-)

    - I'm good with all animals, I've kept rabbits, guinea pigs, a hamster and a cat and I'm regularly dog sitting; I know the basics of horsecare and I used to ride. In short, I love all animals and would love to take care of them all!

    - I have recently renovated my home, laying carpet and PVC, building in a kitchen, putting up corc panels, etc. I know little about proper carpeting but I can help with easy tasks.

    - I'm a hobby gardener - living in an attic flat we only have a small balcony but every inch is covered with plants, though vegetable-wise I have never come beyond herbs and tomato plants. Oh, and a little avocado tree that will presumably bear its first fruit in 20 years... However I'm eager to learn more about growing vegetables and I pick up new things quite easily, so if you show me how it's done I'm sure I can be of help.

This attitude goes for everything really - what I don't know yet I can learn. I am an eager student and a hard worker and if I set my mind on something I will learn quickly.
