Description
I'm looking for an experience that will take me out of my usual head space and expose me to new people and new ways of approaching life.
I like puttering around the house doing odd jobs. I'm by no means well versed, but have tried my hand at simple plumbing, electrical work, painting, deck repair, etc. as we live in an old house that's always in need of something. I like bringing new life to old furniture and am a big proponent of second hand anything. I'm detail oriented in most things I do, but I don't think I'm obsessed with perfection - sometimes good enough is good enough.
I love snow shoveling - I think it's the obviousness of it, but also the challenge and just being out in the weather. I revel in the variety of flora and fauna to be found on a long walk in the woods and like the meditative pace of solo hiking and camping. I often sing or hum or whistle to amuse myself (and others?) and am a very beginner ukulele player, accompanying myself as I make up silly songs. I dote on my cat BigBoy, but would be just as likely to fall in love with a dog, goat, spider, whatever. My default in stressful situations is humour.
I'm currently teaching life drawing at the local college. I'm fairly new to it, so it's still a challenge, but I'm loving the interaction with people decades younger than myself. They're a funny, smart and hardworking group and I can't help but get caught up in their energy.
If I had to define myself in a single phrase, it would be a person who welcomes whatever challenges life has in store.Interests

I have basic experience with a variety of tools; table saw, circular saw, palm and belt sander, drill. I can use a sewing machine and follow a basic pattern or do simple furniture recovering. I am a precise wall painter. I have good reading comprehension and writing skills. I bake, mostly pies these days, but cookies and bread come under my wheel house as well. As a life drawing teacher I work with a variety of people with different skill sets and communicate ideas in a group setting as well as working with students individually. I am comfortable working with all sorts of animals.

What else ...
I like playing games! I have no concept of poker or bridge, but I'll play most other card games, as well as scrabble, crokinole, etc. I also like reading aloud - making up appropriate voices for the characters, setting the right tone for the story - it's a delight.
