  • Description

Hi, my name is Issy, I’m a vibrant and adventurous 22-year-old who is passionate about the environment, sports, and travel. In 2022, I completed my undergraduate degree in Environmental Science and more recently a Masters in Global Health. Instead of going straight into a boring desk job I decided to embark on a journey through Southeast Asia and now Australia and New Zealand.

Sports play a significant part in my life, and I have played field hockey since I was a child. During university I played at a high level and volunteered as the social secretary and later, the president of the club. I learnt a lot about communicating with and managing people from a wide range of backgrounds. I would love to have the opportunity to try different sports and stay active during my workaway placements.

I also have experience as a volunteer in a more professional setting, I previously worked as a gymnastics volunteer during the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022. I knew nothing about gymnastics before volunteering but felt like I could give competing a good try afterwards! The experience was incredibly rewarding, and I enjoyed engaging with the other volunteers and members of the public. I hope to continue connecting with people from all over the world whilst in Australia by listening to their stories, getting out of my comfort zone and seeing a little more of the world.

I have some experience in decorating and gardening mainly through helping out at my Dad’s handyman business. Since I was a child, my parents have own an allotment so I have learnt many gardening skills through that. Although I hated it as a kid I have learnt to love the allotment now and appreciate the hard work you put in determines the produce you receive!

I have been exploring southeast Asia for the past three months, and have been busy immersing myself in different cultures and learning new skills along the way. However I am now ready for a new adventure! Over the last three months of travel I have been researching Melbourne and the wonderful city you live in. My love for Melbourne stems from its reputation as the hub of Australian culture and the buzzing city vibe.

Overall, I am an enthusiastic and hardworking individual who is passionate about making a positive impact on the environment and my community. My travels have given me a wealth of experience that I hope to share with others while continuing to learn and grow throughout my journey. If you're looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer, look no further!

  • More details about your skills

Ever since I can remember I have loved arts and crafts, whether that’s crocheting, making cards or designing clothes for my friends. Give me any sort of craft assignment and some time for a quick google and I could design anything for you. Last Christmas I combined my brothers two favourite things, beer and tanks (he’s 24) to make a small tank made out of wrapped beer cans and bottles. He loved it!

More recently I have made and painted a desk and shelving unit for my university room. I would enjoy small wood working tasks if you require it. I am definitely interested in a skills swap where I can teach you about arts and crafts, sports, and the environment whilst learning about the hobbies you love.
