Description
My name is Hedi, I am 18 years old and live in a small rural village in the heart of Bavaria (Germany). Animals accompanied me from an early age, whether it was my grandma’s chickens, our cats or several other animals you got across in our large garden. Today we have a small family of three cats living with us, which I have truly taken to my heart and which I look after with lots of love. Animal care is therefore a passion of mine that comes as standard with village life, but also support and reliability among neighbours are of great importance here, just like in a big “family”.

Although I would always want to return to this tiny, familiar village, i now (between graduating from high school and studying next year) plan to gain new experiences and especially get to know new interesting people outside my region. Our family has always travelled a lot all around the world and i aim to continue this habit in order to satisfy the desire for distant places.
In the first place I would like to make new acquaintances, ideally new friends, with whom you can sit together for a long time after dinner on nice evenings and talk about life. Because such contacts and valuable tips are the key to a life as I imagine it: full of adventures and stories.
Adventures for me also include learning (teaching) languages or sporting activities such as bouldering, hiking or cycling, although I am also very open to try new things in this aspect.
I love both art and theater, I paint and act myself and hope to turn this passion into a career one day (Gladly also with children). Until then, I am gathering new impulses and expanding both my horizon and my “family”. :)

🎨As already mentioned I am a really creative person, who not only loves to paint, but also to take photos, film and edit videos to write or to make pottery.

🌱I have no problem with doing physical work, if necessary.
We’ve always had a garden which means I am familiar with gardening or planting fruits/vegetables as well.

🥘As a result cooking, trying out new recipes and eating mostly fresh and healthy is important to me.

🐈I am very passionate and loving about any kind of animal care and would love to learn more about it as I have animals myself.

🍺At the moment I work part-time in a local restaurant (a traditional “Biergarten”) where I take on tasks such as bartending or serving in order to earn a little extra money. As I really enjoy the company of my colleagues and guests, the job is always fun and full of variety.

❗️But for me, the focus is also and especially on learning new skills.

On the one hand i like partying and going out my friends or drinking a good glass of wine/beer from time to time. One the other one we also appreciate activities in nature together (like picnicking, canoeing, visiting markets). - the two things are super combinable as well ;) - A few weeks ago in August 2024 we traveled to Sweden in a van and absolutely loved the remote lifestyle while wildcamping at different lakes :)

Unsere Zeit bei Edd, Anika und Grace war unser erstes Workaway-Erlebnis und so wundervoll, dass wir am liebsten gar nicht mehr abgereist wären. Wir fühlten uns ab der erstens Sekunde wie daheim und wurden mit offenen Armen begrüßt. Trotz der kurzen zwei Wochen, konnten wir so viel von den drei lernen.
Edd brachte uns bei, wie man mit viel Geduld,… read more also con calma ;), körperlich Arbeitet, neue Techniken lernt und dabei stets motiviert bleibt. Die Arbeit mit ihm war nie langweilig oder mühsam und es hat uns sehr glücklich gemacht, nach einem anstrengenden Tag unsere Ergebnisse zu sehen.
Anika hatte (trotz den Halsschmerzen) immer ein offenes Ohr und einen guten Rat für uns, egal zu welchem Thema. Ihr Wissen über die Natur Portugals und wie man sie in leckere Gerichte einbaut war fantastisch! Wir durften den Beiden bei verschiedensten Aufgaben auf dem Grundstück helfen, z.B. bei der Fertigstellung des süßen neuen Gästehauses, trimmen mit der Motorsense oder Feuerholz machen. Dabei hatten sie stets vollstes Vertrauen in uns was absolut nicht selbstverständlich ist.
Und selbst wenn die Stimmung mal abfiel, konnte Gracie die Gemüter sofort mit ihrer bezaubernden Lebensfreude und unendlichen Energie wieder aufheitern. Mit ihr zu spielen war keine Arbeit, sondern wie Freizeit für uns.
Ohne Auto ist es relativ schwierig größere Ausflüge zu machen, aber das muss unserer Meinung nach auch gar nicht sein. Wenn man in so einer paradiesischen Landschaft lebt, die sich perfekt zum Wandern, Abschalten und Natur genießen eignet, vermisst man das Getümmel der Städte kein Stück. Es gibt sooo viel zu entdecken, gerade wenn man sich auf Anikas Tipps einlässt und die Augen offen hält!
Danke euch für eure Unterstützung (auch an unglücklichen Strandtagen), ihr seid in den letzten Wochen für uns nicht nur Arbeitspartner, sondern echte Freunde geworden! Wir vermissen euch jetzt schon und haben Grace versprochen wiederzukommen, was wir natürlich liebend gerne halten werden. Bis dahin bleibt die Vorfreude auf weitere phänomenale Pizzapartys, beeindruckende Bauwagenkonzerte und frische Frühstücksorangen.
Unsere gemeinsamen lustigen sowie interessanten Gespräche werden uns noch lange in Erinnerung bleiben und uns wieder und wieder an diesen wunderschönen Aufenthalt im portugiesischen Hinterland zurückdenken lassen!

Our time with Edd, Anika and Grace was our first workaway experience and was so wonderful that we would have preferred not to leave. We felt at home from the second we arrived and were welcomed with open arms. Despite the short two weeks, we were able to learn so much from the three of them.
Edd taught us how to work physically with of great patience (con calma ;) ), learn new techniques and always stay motivated. Working with him was never boring or tiring and it made us especially happy to see our results after a hard day. Anika always had an open ear and good advice for us (despite the sore throat), no matter what the topic. Her knowledge of the portuguese nature and how to use it in delicious dishes was fantastic! We were allowed to help them with various tasks on the property, e.g. finishing the lovely new guest house, strimming the land or cutting firewood. They always had complete trust in us, which is not to be taken for granted.
And even when the mood dropped, Gracie was able to cheer everyone up again immediately with her enchanting joy of life and endless energy. Playing with her wasn't work, it was like free time for us.
Without a car it is quite difficult to go on longer trips, but in our opinion you don't have to. When you live in such a paradisiacal landscape, which is perfect for hiking, switching off and enjoying nature, you don't miss the crowds of the cities one bit.There is sooo much to discover especially if you follow Anika's tips and keep your eyes and heart open!
Thank you for your support (even on unlucky beach days), you have not only become working partners for us in the last few weeks, but real friends! We already miss you and have promised Grace to come back, which we will of course be delighted to do. Until them, we are looking forward to more phenomenal pizza parties, impressive Bauwagen-concerts and the freshest breakfast oranges.
Our fun and interesting conversations together will remain in our memories for a long time, making us think back again and again to this wonderful stay in the Portuguese hinterland!
