  • Description

We are a young couple of budding ecologists/adventurists who are keen to learn about our environment and how to live sustainably and communally in an ever complex world. We are both currently studying Ecology and Conservation Biology at the University of Exeter and are based down in Cornwall. While we are enjoying our studies we are increasingly aware of the limitations of academia in developing the skills that really matter, such as working directly with people and the land in order to create change. In order to satisfy the latter we have decided to take some time out of our studies to travel and learn from people who know more than us and offer whatever we can in return. We both have experience as workawayers (this profile used to be Harrys but you can look Bindu's up if you want) and have volunteered separately at various permaculture farms, and Bindu has spent time volunteering at animal sanctuaries with both wild and domestics creatures. We strive to learn more and gain skills related to the land, sustainable food production, and animal husbandry. We are also currently converting a van into somewhere we can live in while embarking on this journey, as well as to gain some skills in planning, carpentry, and all the rest of it!

  • More details about your skills

We can cook a few dishes, and will happily do our share of cleaning and housekeeping when required. We generally feel most happy working outdoors where we can learn and improve a variety of practical skills. Whether this involves gardening, building or caring for animals, we will not shy away from hard work and appreciate people who are open to creative solutions.

Harry very much enjoys working with plants, whether that involves harvesting, weeding or pruning. Anyone who is willing to share their plant knowledge as we work is an absolute hero of his! He is a keen builder and has completed a workshop in natural building techniques which involved learning how to create natural plasters, as well as constructing walls for a house using earthbags and cob. He also has a chainsaw license and experience felling and processing trees within a rotational coppice system.

Bindu has experience and passion working with animals, and has assisted in rehabilitation and veterinary sanctuaries internationally. She is extremely interested and curious about animal husbandry and how to keep animals sustainably, and would love to learn skills such as small scale dairy production and animal butchery. She is also training to be a yoga teacher and has experience assisting in the running of eco yoga retreats since birth.

Both Bindu and Harry love to teach and learn and have spent the past year running a university society called 'Green Living' where we created a learning space for sustainable skills such as spoon carving, veg growing, clothe making etc.
