  • Description

Hi :) I’m Hannah - a positive, enthusiastic person with a passion for travelling to new places, meeting new people and immersing myself in different ways of life.

I am currently taking an 11 month sabbatical from my job at a charity in the U.K. - I’ve spent the first 5 months working and travelling in Spain and Morocco and for the rest of the year I will be travelling through South and Central America. I find happiness when working on meaningful causes together with other like minded people.

I have excellent communication and interpersonal people skills developed through 10+ years of work experience across charities and education. I have a keen interest in promoting positive mental health and wellbeing and have volunteered in this area in numerous organisations, most recently in Sri Lanka. I have a personal interest in feminism, politics and social equality and am really motivated to find work or volunteering in these areas.

I really enjoy learning new things and I am excited to improve my Spanish speaking skills, having begun learning Spanish earlier this year!

I am looking forward to working with with you!

  • More details about your skills

I have a bachelor’s degree in Psychology (BSc 1st) and a master’s degree in Gender Studies (MA Distinction), both from the University of Sussex, U.K. I have excellent communication and interpersonal skills developed through 10+ years of work experience across charities and higher education.

Firstly, through my lobbying work in the charity sector, I've developed a strong understanding of the social policy landscape and how to influence decision makers to change policy. As a campaigner, I’ve worked on a range of different projects - all with the overall aim of creating change that will improve the lives of people living in poverty or facing discrimination. Working on such a variety of projects has made me aware of the complex way policies can impact people in the real world.

I also have a range of experiences of working in the mental health sector, where I’ve demonstrated strong people skills, the ability to build a rapport with people and deliver person-centered support. My roles have involved making assessments about clients’ abilities, the state of their mental health and whether they are coping with daily tasks. I would then use this assessment to tailor the level of support needed for each client. This has given me a strong sense of judgment and the ability to adapt my approach depending on the person’s needs. I delivered person-centered support to clients, ensuring they were able to reach their potential.

I have previous teaching experience as a Mental Health Volunteer Teacher for SLV.Global in Sri Lanka, working in Colombo. My role as a volunteer involved teaching English to adults and children in a variety of settings including in local schools, community outreach projects, psychiatric units and centres for people with special needs. Through this experience I developed a strong understanding of how to successfully engage learners with a range of different abilities and how to tailor lessons to their individual needs. I recently completed my TEFL qualification, and am ready to use my new knowledge and my existing professional skill set to be a dedicated and dynamic teacher of English.
