Description

My name is Clarissa, and I'm taking time to enjoy some travelling adventures on a sabbatical this year. I'm looking to have new experiences, meet new people, and find other ways of living, especially after having been in cities my whole life. I'm also looking to see where I'd most like to live! Traveling through volunteering is letting me do exactly this - in such a local, personal way:) It's inspiring, always.

In my regular life, I am a visual artist (painter), curator and teacher, and my background is in decorative art and film production.

For volunteering, I'm happy to do all kinds of work - outdoor yard work, gardening, I love to cook and prep food. Also, I'm good at working on interiors for decor and organization, I actually did quite a bit of this in the film industry. Animal care would be a joy, I'm happy to care for, and muck around with them:) Also teaching - drawing, painting, art workshops or different kinds of crafting - my first workaway was painting a mural for a primary school, it was sooo much fun.

I'm really excited to have found workaway, as it's exactly the kind of possibility for new experiences that I was looking to find.

Absolutely. I'm interested in learning languages, and if I can be of help teaching English, I'm in. I have studied French for many years, yet haven't had all that much opportunity to use it, so will see what comes back to me. Also, I've studied Italian in college and just started with Duolingo again. Will see....:)

My background is in the arts, I'm a painter. I have many years of painting experience, first as a decorative artist and then as a scenic artist in film and television. So this gave me a wide breadth of experience in all kinds of methods - tromp l'oeil, faux finishes, gilding, reproductions of master paintings, surface treatments, prop-making, etc. I've done a fair bit of restoration work on furniture and even spent time in France restoring a 19th-century horse carriage many years ago.

I have taught in my field for many years, classes and workshops in painting, drawing as well as lecturing in film-related painting classes, film production and color theory and symbolism. I basically just like making things!

What else ...

I'm generally pretty quiet - I'm used to painting and listening to music on my headphones - it's good to have downtime to just replenish and absorb what I'm taking in, I find. However, I like to be social as well. Museums, films, galleries. You know, Netflix...

I do like to cook (I'm no expert, though), love reading, music, word games, silly riffing, learning new stuff. Excursions are always good, and I'm a history buff. DO tell me all the weird and amazing trivia and details about everything. I definitely want to know!
Oh, and I do love animals:)

Practicing Tarot, meditating, and learning about all kinds of metaphysical subjects has always been an interest as well, just by the way.
