  • Description

    Ciao, I'm Giacomo!
I live in a small village close to Torino, in northern Italy. I'm going to take some "gap-months" (it was supposed to be a year, but it's going to be a little less than that) after my degree, last fall. In the meanwhile, I've been working part-time at a sporting goods store for two and a half year. I also worked as a photographer sometimes. Now I'm looking for new challenges. I really want to explore the world out of my comfort zone. I’m really looking forward to disconnecting from my daily routine. I want to create a new routine which fits my physical and emotive needs more. I'm also eager to make new connections here on Workaway. I'm eager to learn from you and to share with you what I already know.

I really love to spend my free time in nature by being active and doing outdoor activities, but I also like to spend my free time in a quieter way, such reading or writing at home, near the fireplace, with a cup of tea, maybe. I'm happy when I can ride my bike in the countryside and when I reach the top of a mountain by foot. But I'm also happy when I miss to reach the top I was aiming to: the path is what really matters, not the destination, after all.
I'm happy when I can help people around me, doing something I love to help them.
I'm also happy when I can hug a tree in the woods, or when I read a great book on my own, maybe near a lake. I'm happy when something I read makes me wish to write something new. I'm happy when I meet new people whom echoes with me. I'm also happy when I can build something with wood and nails and screws and when I get my hands in touch with soil and plants.

Setting realistic goals motivates me a lot. And also establishing a path to achieve them. I'm everyday motivated by looking at goal in terms of "how" I want to feel when I achieve something, instead of thinking of goals in terms of "things" to achieve.

I'd like to learn Spanish: my level is very basic at the moment. I'd also like to help people improve their English by talking with them in everyday life. And Italian, of course! :)

  • More details about your skills

I really enjoy manual labor, I love doing some DIY every now and then and to create things with my hands. I also love to grow plants and vegetables and to get my hands dirty. I have a little experience with that, I managed to grow some satisfying plants in the past years - and I'm willing to learn more about it. I'm a fast learner, especially with manual labour.

I'm also very creative, I love to write stories and tales. I love to play with children and kids because their imagination and creativity is boundless and limitless. Sometimes I wish I could be a child again, for a few moments. Playing with kids is the nearest I can get to my inner child! I also love to paint and draw, even if I'm not very good at it. I can play guitar and ukulele, but I definitely can't sing!

I graduated in cinema and literature last fall, and I'm currently working in a sporting goods store, where I learnt how to work with others, but also how to be autonomous in my activities. As a result, I have learnt many things about mountain gear and how to fix bikes! I have also worked as a photographer and videographer, so I have skills on social media and content creation.
