  • Description

Hello! I am 21 years old and about to graduate college in September. Afterwards, I’m eagerly looking for some opportunities to get outdoors and spend my time and energy more intentionally — and ideally meet some cool people in the process! I grew up in Seattle, WA and have copious amounts of love and adoration for the natural world. In my free time, I am usually hiking, playing music, or finding the nearest body of water for a quick swim.

(American Red Cross lifeguard certified, including First Aid as well as pediatric and adult CPR. Valid until February 2025.)

I would consider my two greatest strengths to be communication and teaching.

Beyond my degree, which concentrates on culture and communication studies, I have worked as a writer for Seattle’s local LGBTQ+ newspaper, Seattle Gay News, since May 2022. I am now a contributing writer and don’t write on a specific schedule, but I started out as their intern and wrote 1-2 articles per week while also helping with social media management and content creation.

I am now working as a swimming instructor/coach at the YMCA, working with kids 3-12 in weekly classes. I also teach private lessons, where I have worked with a wider variety of people, including parents with infants under 12 months , as well as adult as old at 55 learning to swim. This is by far the most fulfilling job I’ve ever had — I love working with people and having the chance to help them learn a new skill and develop more confidence. I have also noticed my ability to collaborate with others (parents, students, other teachers) has gotten stronger since beginning this job.

Past these, I’ve also worked as a production assistant for small film sets around the Seattle area, which has helped me navigate fast-paced environments. It’s also given me the opportunity to learn about some small things like set design and even building set pieces. My experience in restaurants has also helped me develop a good customer service attitude.

I also had the chance to work on a n organic farm in Bellport, NY for about a month in 2016, where I helped with harvesting, sorting and distributing produce. I also helped occasionally with the CSA stand there.

On a personal level, I also play a little bit of guitar and piano, and I like to think I can hold my own with drawing and painting, even if these are just hobbies.

  • What else ...

I’ve rambled enough, but I will add that I am always interested in creativity and community in any form. I’ve joined WorkAway to seek out authentic connection with good people, and look forward to everything it might offer!
