  • Description

    Hello!

I'm Freya and am currently studying French and International Relations in the UK. I am looking to work on a workaway project for a few months this summer to improve my French, meet new people and learn new things.

Last year I spent 6 months travelling in Central and South America and that experience made me realise how much I love hostel life, chatting to people from all over the world, learning about people, languages and cultures and the fact that every single day is different and exciting.

I volunteered in a hostel in South America for a week, so have a basic understanding of the ins and outs of the role and know that I really love it!

I also volunteered for a organisation called Raleigh International in Costa Rica and spent a month on a indigenous school, building the foundations for a new classroom, planning and planting a vegetable garden and teaching English to primary school children there. I loved this experience and would love to develop the skills I learnt there this summer. I spent an additional month working on a national park, chopping wood, clearing woodland areas, building and painting signs and assisting tours around the park for visitors. This experience really made me realise how much I value nature and the environment, and just how important it is to prioritise these things.

I have worked in cafes and restaurants since I was 14 (and a hotel last year), and have always really enjoyed talking to customers and making sure they get the best service possible, feel comfortable and welcome.

My favourite place to be is on the beach or in the mountains, swimming, cycling or running (or just sat reading a good book in the sun). I love to practice yoga and listen to music (any music but at the moment I am really enjoying exploring modern jazz - Berlioz is really cool!) and so would be so happy to be near the sea or a river/ lake. I also really enjoy cooking and love to try new dishes and learn how to make them.

I am up for any new experience, am friendly and open minded and love to meet new people. I also work really hard and will put my all into everything!

Thank you so much for reading this.

Maybe I'll get to meet you soon,

    Freya :)

  • More details about your skills

I am intermediate-level French, beginner German and from the UK!

I have been barista trained so am a competent coffee maker, happy behind a till and table service.
I currently work in a fine dining restaurant in Birmingham, UK, where I have developed my attention to detail and ability to carry out tasks (waitressing) to a high standard.

I worked on an environmental project in Costa Rica last year where I was mainly cutting down trees, carrying wood and clearing paths.

I also worked on a project to build a new classroom in a remote village in Costa Rica. I learnt how to lay the foundations for a new building, learnt to saw, drill and nail and improved my strength and stamina (some days we carried heavy planks of wood up and down the mountain for 7 hours)

I have volunteered in different schools over the years, working as a student support teacher and giving extra revision sessions in Biology and English. I really enjoy working with children and am good at organising activities and lessons which are always fun and engaging.

Last year I worked as an Au Pair for a French family near Avignon for 2 months. I developed my French skills and also my patience when working with children. I cooked and cleaned as part of the role and organised activities such as biking, swimming races, art projects and treasure hunts in the garden as well as teaching English lessons to the children.

    I am quick to learn
    Great interpersonal skills
    Great teamwork
    Sport- running, swimming, sailing, yoga
    Independent
    Calm under pressure
