  • Description

Hi, I'm Emma! I just graduated high school in the Netherlands, and I am taking a gap year before going to university. I have enjoyed living in my home town of Groningen for the past 18 years, but it's time for a change of scenery for me. I want to see more of what the world has to offer and experience what life is like in other countries! I have always enjoyed traveling around Europe with my family, especially seeing the nature in different parts of the continent brings me a lot of joy since the landscapes that I'm used to aren't that pretty (mostly flat meadows) . In my pastime I like to boulder, bike and walk, and for more relaxing activities I'm realy fond of knitting, reading, baking/cooking, playing guitar, watching sports and watching movies/tv-shows with family and friends. Other people would describe me as calm, kind, caring, creative and maybe a bit reserved if you meet me for the first time, but that will change once you get to know you better! This is my first experience with workaway, I'm realy excited for the adventures that it will bring!

As I've just finished high school, I don't have any working experience, but I'm a fast learner and I'm always willing to help if there is something that needs to be done! I have helped with small projects like music evenings that my high school hosted. I would help behind the bar and give people drinks and snacks and handle the payments for that. I've also helped organising a valentine event at my school with my friends, where we would deliver roses with messages for people, which was realy fun and chaotic at times. For trips with family and friends I've organised the transportation by train a few times, and I made sure that everything went according to plan. Even if we were in stressful situations, I would remain calm and made sure that we arrived to our destination. Futhermore I help around the house when my parents are busy with work. This means that I'm used to doing the laundry, the dishes, cooking and cleaning around the house. I have helped my father with some handy tasks over the years, like assembling furniture, painting the walls and fixing other stuff. So I do know the basics of how to work with a hammer, saw and a drill, but I wouldn't say that I have a lot of experience in that area. But I'm always grateful to learning news things and improving my skills! I also have some experience with horses, I have done horse riding for 10 years, but I stopped riding a few years ago. I got my driving license (B) as well this year, and I'm realy enjoying driving around! I also like to spend time with my grandmothers and help them with things they need, or to just spend some quality time with them. I was born and raised in the Netherlands, so I speak Dutch fluently. My mother is from Germany, so I was raised bilingual and also speak German fluently. I've learned English through school, and watching "Friends" during the pandamic, so my English level is pretty good, although it can always be improved!
