Description
Hello, I’m Emily, 32 years old. I am an anthropologist, hiker, freediver, and all-around nature lover originally from Minnesota, USA. I have work experience in hospitality (cafes, hostels, etc.), landscaping (gardening, pruning), farming (mushroom farm, general veggies), and vineyards. Some other interesting jobs I’ve had include working on a commercial fishing boat and working as an archaeology technician in a National Park. I have a master’s degree in Environmental Anthropology, and soon to have another in General and Applied Linguistics. I love to learn about other cultures and other places, and the ways in which people interact with their local environments. The most important thing to me in traveling are the relationships I form, to people and place.
I am most keen to learn about animal husbandry as I’d like to have my own fiber animals one day (goats, sheep) as well as ducks or chickens. I am also interested in orchard care. Would love to do some natural dye in the places I travel as well, discovering local plants and creating art from the yarn!
Looking forward to meeting some local communities during my travels!

More details about your skills
Agriculture - Experience working on different farms, including mushroom farm, sweet potato farm, avocado farm. I also have experience planting and transplanting crops. I know how to use common everyday hand tools and some power tools as well. I am a fast learner and love doing production work on farms!
Viticulture - Experience working on three different vineyards. Have completed four seasons of pruning, and worked at a vineyard in Minnesota for 2 years doing year round vineyard care.
Customer Service - Experience working in hostels and cafes, and in general retail. Friendly and outgoing. Able to communicate well with others, even in other languages! I speak French and Spanish, as well as a bit of German, Japanese, and Norwegian.
Cleaning and Maintenance - I have done cleaning and maintenance gigs before, from working in hostels to doing landscaping. Again, I am a fast learner and anything I don't have previous experience with I can figure out quickly!
Childcare and Education - I have been a nanny for a few families. In addition, I worked at an after-school child care facility in Minnesota when I was in my teens. I have done a couple of short teaching English stints, in Japan and Chile. I like children and people tell me I'm good with them!
Hobbies/Crafts - I am a natural dye araise and use naturally dyed yarns to make rugs and other art. I also know how to make paper out of plants.
Sports - I’m a cold water swimmer and a freediver! I like surfing but am only a beginner. Other sports I have basic knowledge of include volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and badminton. In general, I love playing sports with others!

Feedback
Where around the fire Martin sang a good yarn.
Made a new friend (or two, or three)
Was sad at the end (can you blame me?)
One day I’ll return to the charm of this cute and sweet Chestnut farm.
In all seriousness — great time at the farm, I was there for chestnut season which was a blast. Highly recommend… read more
