I'm a curious, open-minded and dynamic girl from Italy. I really enjoy learning and teaching languages and connecting with new people :)
Description
Hi! I'm Elisa, a 27-year-old girl from Lake Garda in Northern Italy.
First of all, I can say I'm responsible and level-headed. I'm naturally more of a listener than a talker, open-minded and extremely curious about other people and cultures.
I absolutely love traveling and discovering. I've been using CouchSurfing both as a host and a surfer since 2015 (feel free to connect with me on CS!) - and, at the very least, it completely changed my idea of traveling! I met many generous and inspiring people, had authentic experiences of the place I was visiting, and was able to broaden my horizons. However, despite visiting several European countries, I've never traveled overseas.
To me what's most precious is connecting, sharing, and learning from each other. I believe the only real way to improve yourself is by keeping your mind and heart open and letting you be inspired by other people! One of my favorite quotes beautifully summarizes this: "But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger, you'll learn things you never knew you never knew."
This is my first time using Workaway, and I'm super excited! I want to help and be useful while having a new experience and discovering another culture. I was supposed to start a professional placement in October 2022 to continue my education to become a psychologist, but I realized I want to know more of the world I live in before dedicating myself to my future career.Interests

After high school I took a gap year and went to the UK working as an AuPair. Thanks to this experience, I learned how to adapt myself to a new environment and get outside my (beloved!) comfort zone. I also became more self-confident as I had to take care of two children and fulfill my responsibilities in another person's house.
After my gap year I started University, and I recently got a Master's Degree in Neuropsychology and Neuroscience. In 2021 I did an internship in a hospital specialized at dementia diagnosis.
Besides Italian, my NL, I can speak English, just a bit of French, and I'm currently learning Japanese. I'm a language teacher on italki since April 2022, and I have taught to both kids and adults, from beginner to advanced.
I've been tutoring since high school, and I have a lot of experience especially with elementary school and junior high school kids with special educational needs. I am firm but also encouraging and very patient!
I worked part-time as a hotel receptionist for three years. It was a very nice experience, as dealing with tourists visiting and curious about my country was exciting and rewarding.
Finally, I'm a Red Cross volunteer :) I took part in various activities aimed at social inclusion (such as assisting homeless people) and I gained some experience in non-emergency patient transportation, including of Ukrainian refugees.Age

What else ...
Another couple of things about myself:
- I absolutely love cycling. I use my bike as much as possible, both as a means of transport and as a hobby. I once did a bike trip around Lake Garda and it was beautiful! I still don't get how exploring something as familiar as my birthplace seemed like an amazing adventure on my bike. I really want to do more experiences like this!
- I adore listening to music (especially rock, metal, and classical music) and I can play the piano :) (but I'd like to learn how to play the guitar, too)
- I like doing jigsaw puzzles :D
- I am a bit of a nerdy person: I like TV series (my current obsession is Chinese period dramas, don't ask why...), anime, and board games.
