  • Description

Hi, we’re Christian & Mariam, a couple from the UK who first met volunteering in Malaysia in 2018. In the year that followed, I (Mariam) graduated from university, while I (Christian) sold my house, re-homed my cats and left my job in Sheffield. Since then, we were lucky to enjoy three years of living nomadically, working remotely whilst volunteering on a range of local projects, from a coffee plantation in Nicaragua to an olive grove in Croatia.

Travel will always be a huge part of our relationship, however more recently, the focus has been on up-skilling in our respective fields. I (Mariam) completed my masters degree and have been working as a multimedia journalist (@aminiarchives on Instagram), while I (Christian) have been building my own business in web development and digital marketing (https://cjpixel.dev).

Between us, we also run Budget Backpackers (@budget.backpackers on Instagram), a platform dedicated to making travel more inclusive and accessible. We specialise in creating video content and digital marketing campaigns for values-driven organisations. We also hope to bring our love of faith, wellbeing and the creative arts to any future Workaways we do!

  • What else ...

Over the last few years, we feel that we have picked up some good little hacks during our adventures that have really helped stretch our budgets and made travelling easier. However, there have also been many challenges and learning points along the way.

As a result, we began a new page called Budget Backpackers, a platform dedicated to living nomadically and working remotely, offering a number of resources to help individuals make the transition to full-time travel. For more, find us on Instagram @budget.backpackers.
