Hi, my name is Charlie and I'm using workaway to experience new things, meet interesting people, and learn.
I have been told I am a calm and conscientious person by many of those I am close to. I enjoy solitude and can be quite content when alone, however, I love a good conversation and the camaraderie of working on a team. I'm definitely not an adrenaline junkie, but I enjoy a good adventure or challenge.
I am motivated by personal growth and I want to help others. I enjoy learning something new, applying it, and mastering it--a process which is often difficult and time consuming. Over the past few years I have begun transitioning to living a simpler and more fulfilling life: I want to live more in accordance with nature and community than most do here in North America.
I am very interested in sustainable development, permaculture, cooking, yoga, spirituality, philosophy, and plant-based medicine.
I am new to workaway, however, I have previous experience working for an NGO in Zambia where I helped set up a small microfinance program.
I am have always been drawn to Latin America and have spent, in total, over two years in the region living, traveling, and working. I am not a fluent Spanish speaker, but I have an intermediate (at best) understanding of the language. I would like to become fluent.

- Bachelor of Science (Economics); Master of Arts (Economics);
- Instructed college level economics and laboratory courses (2012-2019);
- Policy analyst at government department (2014);
- Research Analyst with think tank (2013-2015);
- Math and economics tutor (2012-present)-
- Basketball skills coach and referee (2021-present)
Not sure how much the preceding qualifications and professional experience will help me secure a workaway, but I have gained a lot of useful transferrable skills as a result of them, including:
- Excellent numeracy;
- Computer skills (MS Office suite, etc)
- Public speaking and teaching;
- Organizational and leadership abilities;
- Professional and workplace writing;
- Inter-cultural communications skills
In addition to these skills:
- I really enjoy cooking and being in a kitchen. I am comfortable cooking meat, vegan, or vegetarian dishes.
- I have spent years doing landscaping and gardening.
- I have experience painting and doing some general repairs and maintenance around the house such as installing ceiling tiles and power washing. I recently installed a bidet in my washroom.
- Although it's been a while, I have built and refinished several pieces of furniture.
