Description

Hi there! We're Veronika and Bystrík, a Slovak couple currently travelling around Western Australia. We've become Workaway community members last year during our 1-year stay in New Zealand and we fell in love with it! We have experienced multiple stays in Kiwi and Maori families, and it deeply enriched our cultural experience. Therefore, we'd love to spend some more quality time with local Australian families, and get to know the local culture better.

We're eager to try and learn new things, and we're not afraid of any kind of work! We have plenty of experience working in horticulture as we spent more than 8 months working on Kiwi fruit orchards, but we have plenty of experience with weeding & gardening, landscaping, and chopping firewood as well. Household chores, work around the house and garden, dog-walking, or helping out with other pets go without saying.

We're both very adaptable and hard-working as well as empathetic and culturally sensitive. We'd love to learn about your culture and we're more than willing to share insights from our Slovak culture in return. You can plan on us arriving with a positive attitude, creativity, and lots of energy! We can't wait to help you in your endeavors!

Firstly, as two independent and self-sufficient young adults (hopefully, we can still considered ourselves young), we have plenty of experience with essential life-related chores that include cooking, grilling, baking, sewing, cleaning, organizing, gardening, wall-painting, and all kinds of small repairs required around the house.

Secondly, since we've spent more than 8 months working on kiwi orchards, we have gained plenty of horticulture experience that includes digging, weeding, planting, mulching, irrigation, harvesting, pruning, and all other tasks needed when working around the orchard.

And last but not least, as our previous occupations back at home were office jobs - I worked in a translation and localization company as a project team coordinator and Bystrík worked in a sustainable energy consulting company as a technical specialist - we have more than enough computer related experience (Microsoft Office) as well as good communication skills, and we're definitely not missing a team spirit!

What else ...

Besides traveling the world, meeting new people, and getting to know various cultures, our favorite free time activity is hiking and spending time out in the mountains, or nature in general.

If we're to stay indoors, we like to read books, especially autobiographies, and travelogues, or watch some Netflix series. Our all-time favorite show is The Office, but we never refuse to watch a good crime series, too. We also like to play various board games, such as Activity, or Monopoly.

Last but not least, since sport keeps you happy and healthy, we like to do a bit of yoga, have a tennis match from time to time, or jump on bikes and ride around.

And as there are never enough hobbies, we like to try new ones, looking for another passion to have in our lives. Currently, we're seeking an opportunity to try (and learn) horse-riding and pottery-making.
