Description
I am a British ex pat and have been either travelling or settled for longer durations in either New Zealand or Australia for the past 11 years. I am now also an Aussie citizen and have been based in Sydney for the past 6 years.
I love to travel, animals, the countryside/bush, nature, hiking, the ocean, health and wellness and generally exploring. My passion for animals meant I grew up surrounding by dogs, geese, chickens, tortoises, leased a horse for a little while. We grew up near the country where we spent every weekend camping and being around nature.
I have volunteered in a big cat conservation and rescue park in South Africa, and in a rural hospital in the Phillipines.
I lived in rural farming country for 3 years in New Zealand, running a countryside cafe/wedding venue and making life long friends with sheep and beef farmers and spending all my spare time helping on their farm for fun!
My background is in nutrition, and I have been working as an academic in nutrition and behavioural health medicine for the past 6 years. I recently because a Doctor (academic) after completing a gruelling 3.5 year PhD. I am therefore wanting to reconnect with nature and recharge my mental batteries with another volunteering experience.
I miss animals and nature every day living in Sydney, and am in a constant battle between choosing to work in the job I love or being in the locations/around the surroundings I want to be in. My dream one day is to own a hobby farm of my own and be able to have my own animals and make my own honey and cider for fun!Interests

Happy to get my hands dirty and muck in with pretty much anything!
I have sustained a bunch of sports injuries over the past 5 years but most are in recovery now so I would say I’m fighting fit for most manual tasks.
Past work experience:
-Scientific academia and nutrition lab
-Barrista/cafe and wedding venue manager (helping out with the onsite family horse trekking business on their busy days)
-Healthcare
-Sports nutrition
-Personal trainer
-Hotel reception and team supervisor
Personal experience:
-Solo lease of a horse for 2 years, all tasks relating to this (mucking out, grooming, riding, poo picking in the fields, feed and water)
-Helped for fun on a friends farm in New Zealand: mustering sheep and cows with dogs on horse back and on quad bikes (note-I would need to scrub up on riding manuals), feed and check on rescued calves and lambs, check in birthing sheeps in the paddocks, sheep sorted for docking and sheering.
-Helped out with local horses where possible in exchange for ridding
-Regularly care for people’s dogs
-Great cook and keep my home clean and tidy
-General DIY tasks (painting etc)
-Like to keep fit with hiking, cycling, weight training etc.
