Description
There’s a thread you follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn’t change.
...........
Nothing you do can stop time’s unfolding.
You don’t ever let go of the thread.
- “The Way It Is” by William Stafford
What is the thread?
Arisa, I was named: Sanskrit( beyond the enermy) Japanese ( the sand), Arabic ( the light or a brigth child).... Afther all, it´s a name.
I was born on a tropical island (Phuket, Thailand). My dad grew his small jungle, covering his tiny cottages for guests to be able to hide under shades after getting sunburned from the beach. Growing up with my dad, I saw him building and gardening. I touched, observed, and role-played in his tool room but never learned how to use them properly. I also took on the role of a big sister to take care of and nourish my three little siblings since we didn't have our mom nearby.
After high school, I chose a path in clinical psychology and gravitated towards education. I enjoyed and was inspired by children with and without special needs.
Once I landed in Spain, COVID came, and I decided to move for a temporary job as a dive master in Africa, where I fulfilled a wish of exploring the sea. However, I found something missing—the most important thing, EDUCATION.
From 2012 until now, I have discovered the world of non-formal education through EU funds. I did some volunteering in environmental projects and slowly stepped up to become a trainer and facilitator for all ages, mainly children to young adults. Another part of me that I had left started to reveal itself—the movement and bodywork.
At this point, I am re-exploring dancing as a path to well-being, so I mostly use embodiment in all the topics I deliver. Since last year, I have decided to embrace mindfulness and meditation practices in my life. I was lucky to be able to work in an English immersion and eco-conscious camp where I am free to design my workshops for kids. In 2023, I stumbled upon buto dance and performance which makes me question about the THREAD I follow.
It is beating inside me that I need to Move other and be Moved for people to find a way home. The first and the last home, our body.
At the moment, I am patienly crafting a path ( why am I on earth), while writing a EU funded project on Mortality based on movemet.
I try to live by this quote: "Gratitude arises from paying attention, from being awake in the presence of everything that lives within and without us." - David Whyte
