  • Description

Hey, I’m Ann-Kathrin, 26 years old. I’ve studied physics and chemistry to become a teacher. As courses at school start in January, I have some free time to spend.
Why traveling? There is so much to see in other countries. So many cultures, where we all can learn from each other. But the best reason is the food. Sharing food brings people together and offers an opportunity to exchange about various experiences in different countries. You might have guessed it already: one of my hobbies is preparing food and sharing it with friends. But I also love all the things you can do outdoors, e.g., hiking, swimming, beach volleyball or skiing. As I live at Lake Konstanz, it is a lovely place to do all kinds of outdoor activities.
Why New Zealand? I find nature in general fascinating, and New Zealand offers a great variety of fabulous nature. As it is an English-speaking country, I can communicate with you, which makes traveling easier. Additionally, I was never outside of Europe and want to experience nature and culture outside of Europe. A couple of my friends have been to New Zealand, and they all came back very fascinated.
Which experiences do I have with workaway? As I have never done workaway, my hope is to meet new people, experience an authentic way of life, and enjoy nature. I love plants and do some gardening at home. I’m happy to learn new things about farming. Furthermore, I have a bunch of experience looking after children. I was an au pair, looking after 3 kids; organized some holiday camps for teens, and doing a couple of babysitter jobs. The children I looked after were between 0 and 14 years old. Further, I worked the last couple of months as research assistance, so I’m able to work in a group.
What experiences do I have with traveling? I lived one year in the UK as an au pair. I have experienced a lot of authentic British culture and have a lot of experience caring for children. During my time at university, I loved to spend my free time outdoors with my backpack and a tent. As covid came, I walked from Konstanz to Freiburg (160km in one week). This was a fabulous experience, as people gave us water and food and let us sleep on their meadows. Another adventure brought me to Iceland, where I hitch hiked around the whole island for 3 weeks and slept in a tent. I met many lovely people from all over the world on my journey. I’m sure New Zealand is a great place to travel.
If you have any further questions, I’m happy to share my experiences. I’m looking forward to coming to New Zealand.

During my life I had a couple of jobs where I cared for children. I started with the neighbour boy when he was born and I was in the age of 16. As a teenager, I organised holiday program for teens (age 6 years till 14 years) with activities like scout games. After my A-levels, I lived for one year as an au pair in the UK, where I was in charge of 3 kids in the age of 7 to t10 years old. During my time at university, I looked after two girls (started when they were 5 and 7 years old). I also did some tutoring jobs and worked as a supervisor for the Jugend-Forscht-Price. It’s a competition where children become young scientists and invent useful gadgets to improve the everyday life. My last job was to take care of the children during a wedding. So in total, I have collected a lot of experiences with children.

In terms of plants: I love plants a lot. I have many houseplants and did some gardening in our garden. I planted a variety of vegetables. I'm happy to learn new things to grow vegetables and preserve nature.

As I worked the last couple of months as a research assistance I'm able to work in a group and happy to exchange skills and knowledge. As I lived already some time abroad I'm able to adopt to a new environment. If you need any further information about me I'm happy to share it with you.
