  • Description

Hola! A bit about myself: I'm originally from Mexico by heart but a citizen of the world by soul that has traveled to 30+ countries and has lived overseas for 8 years in Spain and now Australia since 2016. I'm curious about the world, about other cultures and love connecting with like-minded people around the world and learning from them, which is something I love about Workaway.

I can bring to you my skills and experience in the following areas:
-Communications, promotion, social media, graphic design
    -Community engagement
    -Languages (English and Spanish)
    -Project coordination
    -Tourism and hospitality
-General maintenance, housekeeping, cooking (I could even prepare my signature Mexican dishes for you!)

I'll be travelling in Latin America (Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Costa Rica) for 4 months -25 Oct 2023 to 25 February 2024- and would love to be part of different unique projects to connect with like-minded local people, contribute with my skills, discover amazing places and learn. My interests are in permaculture, eco-building, tourism, cultural appreciation and social causes.

I have workaway experience and references. In the past, I've joined a permaculture farm in Riviera Nayarit, have volunteered for a recreation and learning center for children in a small town in San Ignacio and have supported running tourist accommodations and experiences.

A bit more about me: I love discovering about other cultures. I love nature and outdoor activities like hiking, camping, biking, and doing long-distance treks -I've done Camino de Santiago twice and looking forward to doing Torres del Paine soon-. I'm quite an active person. I practice lots of sports including running, beach volleyball, rock climbing, yoga and I love dancing as well - I currently dance Mexican Folklore music, representing my roots in Australia.

Currently in Melbourne, where I live, I work in the Communications area of a non-profit where we promote for people to be more active outdoors as a way of having better mental and physical health and I also led a project of inclusion in the outdoors to make it easier for people with physical disabilities to access outdoor recreation activities.

I also volunteer for The First Hike Project, where we take newly arrived migrants from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds to their first hiking experience in Australia as a way to provide social connection and make their adaptation to their new country easier.

I'm easygoing, friendly, reliable and looking forward to discovering amazing places by helping others and getting in contact with local communities and contributing to them :)

  • More details about your skills

    Andrea:
My background and experience is in marketing, communications, online advertising, websites, graphic design. But due to the fact that I have lived overseas having to do all sorts of jobs, I have developed a set of skills that I'm happy to put in practice in any volunteer opportunity. I've been a tour guide, Spanish teacher, waitress, cook, barista, babysitter, I have managerial experience (perfect for hostels/hotels) and I have worked in community development and aged care.
I'm interested in community development, sustainability, eco-friendly solutions, yoga and mindfulness.
My goal after this volunteer trip is to set up a project that has a possitive impact in the communities so during my free time you will find myself working on my project (I will tell you more about it when we meet!)
