  • Description

    Hello,
My name is Amanda, I am from Brazil and I am currenrly on a GAP year travelling in Europe.
I worked as a lawyer for 20 years and now I think it is time for a change. One of the things I love the most, beside animals and nature, is travelling and, so, here I am. Travelling for me is not only seeing places, but mostly meeting people, knowing their thoughts and culture, getting inspiration and making new friends.
I want to work with something I love and believe and that is why I am taking this time to deal with things I like and trying different experiences. In the meanwhile I finnished a pos grad in neurosciences, which I found fascinating, entered to into a vet university (still undergoing) and I volunteered in a monkey sanctuary in Brazil and in a seal rescue center in the Netherlands. Two lovelly experiences. Back in Brazil I used to volunteer at a dog rescue shelter and at an institution for kids. Last year I worked with a dog behaviorist in trainning, sitting, walking and boarding cats and dogs. I love animals and children and I want to work with them to make their lives better whenever it is possible. That should be my next career path.
Now I am in germany learning all I can about horses. I always loved horses but I have not have the chance to have much contact with them. I would love learning how to train and to ride horses, as well as horsemanship habilities.
I am very active and I like learning new things. I speak english, spanish and portuguese but also some french and italian.
Befora entering uni I used to teach english to adults and kids and also worked at the reception of a language school to pay for the classes.
I joined workaway to meet people, make new friends, do something I believe, get out of my confort zone (which I think we should do once in a while), teach something, learn a lot and having beautiful experiences.

  • More details about your skills

I am active and love learning new things.
I graduated in law and have a pos grad in neuroscience where I learn a lot about human brain and how to do research. I am currently doing vet school, had an internship as animal physiotherapist and worked with an animal behaviorist in treinning, sitting, walking and boarding dogs and cats,
Due to my career I am very used to work with big teams and provide explanations to people from all over the world in diferente languages. One of my tasks at work was to deal with the professional and personal problems of my teams and it was a part of work I liked the most.
Before starting my career I also worked as a receptionist , english teacher and sales person at a souvenir store, so I have some skills to work in the hospitality business.
I love to play with children and with animals. I have done volunteering Works teaching English to children and visiting dog shelters to play with them, take them for a walk and give them showers, as well as help in the pictures for adoption.
During my sabatic I was a resident volunteer in a monkey shelter and in a seal rescue center so feeding, giving medicine and being around sick and healthy wild animals is also something I have done. In the seal center I also assisted in the visitor center giving talks to the public explainning them what we were doing in the center and what I have learnt there.
I am eager to work with these environments again and learn new things.

  • What else ...

I love animals, nature, meeting people and travelling. I like to discover different cultures, new things and alternative treatments for animals. I like reading, dancing, long walks, music, ice skating and roller blading. I also like painting but I think I am very bad at that. I like going to museums, the beach, lakes and mountains, forrest, parks, playing games or be quiet in a nice place. I Like cooking and eating together, although I am not the best cook.
