  • Description

Hi there, I am Amalie. An adventurous and spontaneous young soul from Denmark.
I am currently doing gap-year(s) in between studies to figure out what I want to do with my life.. at least just for the next few years.. I guess traveling is the perfect treatment for my existential crisis:)
Anyways, for now, I know that traveling the world is “what I want to do with my life” at the moment, even though my family would probably be more supportive if I went to university. But I believe traveling can also be an important kind of life education if I can even say that without sounding super cliche.

I’m in general a very positive and optimistic person. I grew up on a farm surrounded by lots of animals and beautiful landscapes, so I learned from a young age to appreciate the simple life. I also learned to use my imagination to keep myself entertained, which made me a very adventurous and creative person with a good logical understanding who takes responsibility for their actions.

I love outdoor activities, camping, sports, animals, photography, staying busy with creative projects (painting, sewing, working with wood or leather), playing music(mainly classical piano), and then I used to compete in horse riding on an international level, but I replaced it with playing badminton.. at least when I am not traveling.
On my recent travels to Morocco and Nicaragua, I also developed a love for surfing, I am not good at it though, but it’s a lot of fun.

I love traveling the world, and I have already done a lot of it, both solo and with friends, or with people I met during my travels. I think it is very healthy to get out of your comfort zone and explore other cultures, where you meet new people and probably also end up in some problematic situations and experience the dark side of the world.
Especially coming from a first-world country, I think it is very important to get out of your safe little bubble and become aware that we live in a suffering world where many people have a very different and sometimes difficult living situation.
I am not saying that we should aim to get us self into problematic situations, but it happens when you’re traveling, and I believe that in those situations is where you learn the most about yourself and also where you develop the most as a human being. When everything doesn’t really go as planned, you can decide to be frustrated and disappointed or you can choose to keep your head held high and get the best out of it. It is usually also in these situations you get the best stories to tell:)
However, when it comes to plans I like to keep it spontaneous and not plan too much. That gives me the flexibility to stay at a place for a little longer if I like it a lot or maybe change the direction of my travels if I meet some people whose company I enjoy.

I am excited to see what else is out there to be explored. I am eager to learn new skills and meet new people. I can't wait for all the interesting conversations that are yet to come!

I am very interested in improving my Spanish. I can probably teach English, but to teach people a new language, I think it would be best if I could also speak their first language.

  • More details about your skills

My greatest skill is probably my curiosity, which also makes me a quick learner, since I am always eager to learn new skills and do my best.

I have done some volunteer work before, mainly on farms in Europe and in the US, where I stayed for a few months, but only one workaway stay so far, which I did in Hawaii for a few weeks.

I recently had a full-time position as a barista, where I learned a lot about coffee, food, doing latte art, and also what it takes to run a cafe.

Last year I had a full-time position as a substitute teacher at a boarding school in Denmark for 15-16-year-olds. I learned a lot about teaching, working with people, and helping them with their different kinds of needs, whether it was school-related or personal.

I have also had a lot of waitress jobs, both in cafes and at places that do big events, where I was responsible for some of the events.

In the past few years I have been a part of the board for a national horse breed association, so I have a lot of experience with planning different kind of events and I have also been a part of planning the national championship the past 3 years.

Other than that I have done a lot of work at the farm where I grew up. Everything from taking care of the animals, fixing fences and cleaning the stables to cutting the sheep and butchering the chickens.
