  • Description

    Alfie
Bonjour readers! I have been very involved with climate campaigning and activism in London. I think now is the time for a different path as we're looking to move away from the city and live in a more natural and sustainable way.

I hope to use this experience to learn and bring back home (although we don't know where home will be eventually!) I started preparing for this life long journey a couple of years ago by doing some courses in organic horticulture in the UK. Bibi and I also did an agro-forestry course in the Portugal in November this year which focused on ecological regeneration. We've been putting these skills into practice and even helped two different hosts design and plant their own food forests in Portugal. There are still many things I would like to learn especially when it comes to construction. I think I can pick things up quite quickly and I am always willing to try new things. I am confident in the kitchen and preparing meals for large groups. I'm clean, tidy and good around the house. What makes me most happy in life is cooking a nice meal and enjoying it with good people. Listening to good music, having good conversation and just having a good laugh.

Similarily to Alfie, I have been involved with grassroots climate justice organising for a while and care deeply for the Earth (and worry about the current state of the natural world and the poly crises we are facing). I'm Dutch-Ugandan and originally from Amsterdam, I've always lived in cities but as Alf mentioned we're exploring options away from this, specifically focusing on regeneration and restoration of biodiversity and living in harmony with the world in a way that doesn't exploit this beautiful planet that we live on.

I am part of a cooperative in London where I work for 4 days a week attempting to achieve social & climate justice. I am very interested in doing more land based work longterm and have fallen in love with gardening and all things permaculture/agroforestry. Other hobbies include hiking, reading, (especially historical fic) yoga, cycling, foraging, theatre and playing football & badminton. I also love animals and caring for them, we have a 10-year-old cat called peggy (nickname: ms chonky) we adopted a year ago and she is a big light in my life. I'm interested in learning more about intentional, self-sufficient communities and enjoy discussions around eco-socialism and politics more widely. It's been great doing workaways and sharing knowledge and skills, especially over a nutritious, home cooked meal. I am still at the beginning of my (organic) food growing journey but I am super curious to keep learning about organic horticulture and anything related to herbalism. I'm also keen to gain more skills in (natural) building and construction, have experience using some basic power tools such as a drill, saw, screwdriver and and like to think I get stuck into any task and pick up things quickly.
