Hello!

I'm Alana and I'm currently on a 12-month sabbatical exploring the world, embracing new cultures and experiencing new adventures.

With a background in strategic communications and stakeholder engagement, I've navigated diverse roles from a sports journalist and radio producer, to travelling the world managing media for international sports teams and looking after corporate communications and affairs for international food and drinks brands.

What inspires me most is the opportunity to connect with people and cultures around the globe. Traveling for me is more than just visiting landmarks—it's about immersing myself in local communities, learning from different perspectives, and giving back wherever I can. Whether volunteering with local initiatives or simply engaging in meaningful conversations, I seek to make a positive impact during my travels.

This sabbatical represents a personal journey of exploration and self-discovery. It's a chance to step outside my comfort zone, embrace spontaneity, and cultivate a deeper understanding of the world we live in. I believe travel broadens our horizons and I'm excited to contribute to and learn from the places I visit.

I am an experienced communications professional with a proven track record in stakeholder management, media relations, and strategic communications across diverse sectors including FMCG, government, and sport. Skilled in developing and executing innovative communication strategies, managing internal and external stakeholders, and navigating complex issues. Proficient in crisis communication, providing strategic counsel to executive leadership and leading impactful cross-functional projects.

I've worked as a sports journalist and radio producer, traveled the world managing media for international sports teams and worked in corporate communications and affairs for international food and drinks brands.

I love giving back to the communities I live and work in. I've been lucky enough to have volunteered in ongoing programs as well as ad-hoc opportunities. My volunteer experience includes mentoring in a refugee employment program, primary school book club, primary school breakfast club, food drives, foodbank operations, soup vans and a social enterprise cafe. The opportunities I enjoy most are when I get to interact with other people and learn about their lives.

What else ...

I've done plenty of travel throughout my life, which kicked off when I moved overseas at 19 with a backpack and a hunger for adventure! I've travelled pretty extensively since then - sometimes with friends, but often by myself. I love meeting new people and immersing myself in new cultures.

I LOVE interacting with kids. I have three beautiful nieces at home and a lot of experience looking after kids - from friends and family to working as a tennis coach/counsellor at an American summer camp.
