    Description

Enjoy your stay in a beautiful, traditionally restored 16th century French château in the heart of the Limousin department while helping out on 90 hectares of farmland (maintenance of grounds, landscaping, breeding cows, housework). Come to lend us a hand and engage in cultural exchange. We prefer young, single volunteers who stay for at least a month, as we believe this is the minimum time period to learn French.

We are Philippe and Bénédicte de la Selle, a married couple in our late 50s/early 60s with four adult daughters (and many grandchildren!) who live around Limousin and France. Philippe is from Orleans and Bénédicte is Parisian; the chateau has been in Philippe's family for generations. We both work full-time in the château running a Bed&Breakfast, renting various vacation properties (to tourists, locals, and university students), and maintaining our 90 hectares of farmland. We are also active in the lives of our children and grandchildren who often come visit.

The Château is less than five kilometers from the historic center of Limoges (Medieval and Renaissance architecture) and local universities. In your time off work, you can meet local students, spend time in nature, or visit historic and cultural sites. Please do not hesitate to contact us as there is always a lot of work to be done. We can host a maximum of four single workawayers.

    Help

There is always work to be done around the 90 hectares of farmland. Jobs may include landscaping, gardening, weeding, leaf removal, painting doors and windows, feeding and looking after animals, planting and harvesting crops, and general cleaning and beautifying of the grounds. You may be asked to set the table or clean up after meals. As we run a chambre d'hôtes/guesthouse, we may need your help with a few projects ongoing. Your help will likely vary from day to day and we can find tasks to fit your natural talents.

Beautiful, spacious bedroom with traditional French decor and bathroom inside the château. The volunteer quarters are on the third floor of the castle and have a nice view of the surrounding countryside. You will share three meals a day with Philippe and Bénédicte in the kitchen and if we are out during mealtimes you can cook for yourselves.
