UPDATE April 2026: we have come to Whangarei for a long-term volunteer assignment. However, due to an unexepected turn of events, our present host is unable to undertake the planned projects involving us. Our 14yo daughter has already joined high school here, so we are must make our best effort to stay in the area (while constantly looking for jobs). We would urgently need a placement from end of April that could provide us with a stable footing. Open to any suggestions, happy to help out in anything! Plumbing, painting, drywalling, gardening, woodwork... you name it :)

We are a family of three. We live in Hungary, Europe, outside a village near the capital city of Budapest, bythe River Danube. Our almost off-grid home uses rainwater, firewood for heating and we have a composting toilet. We do our best to reach food sovereignity, even though our land /climate is becoming less and less appropriate for gardening. We have goats and rabbits, so in terms of dairy and meat and some types of veggies we are almost there!

Frank presently works in plumbing (indivual homes and smaller apartment buildings), but has worked in various jobs in the construction industry. During the past few years, we have built a number of outbuildings and other timber-framed structures together (for firewood storage, a goat house, a tinyhouse for a summer cottage etc.) . He likes his DIY projects and upcycling old things.
Aniko is originally an ecologist, presently working for the Hungarian Research Institute for Agroecology. She spends more and more time in the garden, experiments with goat cheese and foraging.
During the past years, we have renovated the structure of two old buildings (roof, windows, doors, plastering, repaired walls, plumbing etc.) and familiarized with traditional adobe techniques.

Our daughters, Janka (14) and Tamara (13) are both very keen on drawing and obsessed with Japanese culture. They produce about 2 kg of anime cartoons per day :D Tamara loves reading, while Janka is very good at making her own music, constantly experimenting with various instruments.

Apart from a trip to the Vienna zoo, we have never been abroad together. But now it is high time we tried ourselves at ‘working away’!

Was könntest du arbeiten?

We have some experience with farm jobs, as we've been keeping animals (goats and rabbits) for a few years now. We also routinely do timberwork (build cages, outbuildings, repair roofs etc). Ferenc has a few years of experience in general maintenance (plumbing, fixing doors, locks, installment or repair of sanitary installations, fixing and exchanging sockets, some pool maintenance), and is a bit obsessed with sanding / oiling/painting wooden surfaces :D
He just finished an advanced course in plumbing and renewed his licence for installing / maintenance of AC .
I do a lot of gardening and care for our animals, help Ferenc with construction jobs around the house. We can also help with concrete work, wooden or brick flooring, drywalling - at the household level. I obtained a licence for building tiled (wood) stoves for individual heating of homes.
