  • Beschreibung

My name is Xiao and I am from Taiwan. Currently, I am studying English in Ireland. I stay with a host family. My English course will conclude in September. After finishing my language school, I am planning to visit the USA and stay there for one month from September 12th to October 13th.

I want to share my travel experiences here. Before the COVID-19 outbreak, in the previous year, I traveled to the Philippines alone to study English at a language school in Cebu for two months. This trip marked the beginning of my English learning journey. During those two months, I got to know people from various Asian countries, such as Korea, Japan, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and more. I became good friends with my Filipino English teacher, and we often gathered outside of school for activities like dining out, playing volleyball, and billiards. Additionally, I participated in charitable events organized by the school, where we traveled by van to a remote area 200 kilometers away from our town. It was an impoverished region with rough and bumpy roads. I vividly remember one particular road segment completely flooded with water, like a river, and we had to navigate through it like salmon swimming upstream. The school we visited was a combination of primary and secondary education with around 100 students. Upon arrival, the students welcomed us dressed in traditional Filipino attire and performed a welcoming dance. We played team-building games with them and had meals together, leaving me with unforgettable memories. Witnessing the happiness on the students' faces was truly rewarding and made the trip even more meaningful.

After that experience, my desire to travel abroad grew stronger. I returned to Taiwan and worked for a few years, followed by almost three years at a foreign company. However, the company faced economic difficulties last year, leading to over half of the employees being laid off, including me. I considered it an opportunity given by fate and decided to use my savings to pursue my dreams.

In November of last year, I traveled to Japan for a week, exploring Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. I visited many temples and was fascinated by Japanese culture. I highly recommend everyone to visit Japan at least once in their lifetime.

In January of this year, I went back to the Philippines, this time to Cebu, a popular tourist destination. I stayed there for a whole month, attending language classes on weekdays, going on island-hopping trips, and enjoying seafood on weekends. I immersed myself in the local island culture and appreciated the beauty of its stunning beaches. Unfortunately, the weather was not favorable on some days, making it challenging to see fish and sea turtles during scuba diving due to the foggy water. Nevertheless, this month greatly accelerated my English learning, and I made friends from various countries during my time in Cebu.

In March, I arrived in Ireland to study English for six months. I have been living with a host family for over four months now and have made friends from South America, Italy, France, Africa, India, and of course, Ireland. I enjoy my life here, working part-time at cafes and restaurants, and spending leisure time picnicking with friends while enjoying a drink. The all-English environment has significantly improved my speaking and listening skills.

In May, I travel to London for 3 days, to visit all the famous tourist attractions. This is my first Europe trip. It is a good experience for me. and all the people there are so friendly! My friend and I met a lady on the tube, and she share a lot of information about travel in London. and we also met another lady in the bus station during the strict was happening, she give me suggestions to help us can get to the airport on time. We were so lucky to meet those kind people there!

In June, I went to Amsterdam for 3 days. It is a such beautiful city, and everywhere is a masterpiece! I went alone to visit all the museums to explore the arts there.

I am currently preparing for an English exam in August and will leave Ireland in September, heading to my next destination, the United States.

I am grateful that learning English has allowed me to travel and meet people from different countries. Cultural differences always intrigue me, and I love getting to know diverse individuals and learning from each other.

I want more people to get to know Taiwan and understand that it is an independent country, not a part of China. I love sharing Taiwanese culture with my friends, and I often cook Taiwanese food for them, which they really enjoy. Since coming to Ireland, I've realized that many people have misconceptions about Taiwan, and some even mistake it for China or Thailand. Whenever I encounter someone who is unfamiliar with Taiwan, I try my best to explain its history and cultural uniqueness. As a result, many of my friends have decided to visit Taiwan in the future. Even my Chilean classmate has made plans to come to Taiwan to visit me next year! I truly hope to let more people know that Taiwan is an amazing country. We are a technological island and a developed nation, leading the world in semiconductor technology with over half of the global supply. Besides our technological prowess, Taiwan is rich in natural resources. We have a mountain called Mount Yu Shan, which reaches a height of 3,952 meters. Taiwan is surrounded by the sea on all sides, experiencing distinct four seasons. We boast diverse natural ecosystems, including forests, farmlands, harbors, and historical landmarks, making us a culturally diverse treasure island!

I love doing yoga, and sometimes I meditate in the morning. I am a person who really loves animals, and I have a dog in Taiwan. I have a wealth of knowledge about how to take care of dogs, cats, rabbits, and pet fish.

I try to approach life with a positive and ambitious attitude, always setting goals for myself and pushing myself to be better. I'm grateful for my natural creativity and observant nature, which have served me well in my studies and my work. Overall, I'm just trying to do my best and be a good person, and I hope to continue growing and learning as I move forward in life. being a grateful person and keep believing in yourself, that is the root of my life to bring me motivation and happiness.
