    Hello!

I am Johana, born and raised in Uruguay but with europeans roots (and european passport).
I started to make true one of my passion some years ago, with my boyfriend at that moment: travel the world by hitchhiking as a way to approach and understand the different cultures of the beautiful and mostly good people around the globe.

Here´s a little more information about myself...

Some of the people who know me more started to calling me Joy (a diminutive of my name). I liked the way it sounds but I never introduced myself as "Joy".
Some years ago, a new friend from my narrative class (in spanish) asked me something no one asked me before: "how do you like to being called?". I answered "I like Joy". She kept looking at me, smiled and just said "joy has a beautiful meaning in english, and it suits you perfectly... I like it, I´ll call you Joy".
I never realized about that since I always thought about it in spanish but from that day I started to use Joy as a way to introduce myself, like giving the other person a piece of myself in the moment we met.

So... hi! I´m Joy, nice to meet you there!

*** Workaway asks: what things bring me happiness***
I like to think the happiness is already inside me, and some things just pull it out, such as the good people, feeling useful, bring joy to someone else, reading (specially classics and black novel), bubble wrap, animals, nature, the wind on a sunny day, breaking the coffee jar paper seals with my fingers, backpacking, anime and manga, yellow color, antiques, wooden libraries, very old books, coffee, the smell of summer, and so many things.

I consider myself as a bit perfeccionist, very organised (the kind of person who writes down everything on paper), polite and with tons of patience.
I enjoy cooking but I enjoy even more when the people whom I cooked for enjoy my food.
I like to learn new things (something that I believe happens everyday if we are open to see it) and improve the knowledge I already have.

And yes, you guessed it... I love to write.

  • Was könntest du arbeiten?

I´m a very patient person, organised and polite, always willing to learn new things everyday, and find the way to improve the already learnt things.
I always worked bringing assistance to other people (specially in duties related to computers, help desk) and even if I think I have good skills for working with people and I enjoy it very much (both, clients and coworkers) I can also be succesfull in the kind of works you can do alone but needs concentration, because I also enjoy finding a way to improve something or make it the best way as possible, is like a challenge for me.
In my past jobs, more than once I asked to improve a banner using self-learnt knowledge about graphic design (even if this wasn´t my duty) or I just tried to make the place more cozy by decorating around... I like to try to make things even better and make people feel good.
I always worked with public, in person and also by phone, and I enjoyed it very much.

Even if I never worked (formally) with animals I would love to do it and learn more about them because I just love animals (and I think somehow they can feel when someone likes them too).

I also enjoy hand crafting things, draw and painting. Last years I ventured into painting murals on walls so I can try it again if you need it (and if you like what I did previously of course).
And of course, since I enjoy writing (and I can typing fast) I can help with anything related to it.

And right now I`m still working in my first Workaway experience at an hotel and seminar centre, so I learnt a lot about hospitality.
I am working in different fields, since cleaning and preparing the rooms for the guests, until various tasks in the restaurant (preparing the buffet, buying drinks, washing dishes, etc).

So yes... I consider myself a very versatile person.

*** WHAT THE TRAVEL TAUGHT ME ***
Backpacking (and hitchhiking) unblocked new skills on me that I didn´t know I could develope: I am more talkative now when the situation needs it (travels gifted me with so many stories that is almost impossible to ran out of topics of conversation) and saw so many realities that is easier for me to understand other peoples perspective and put myself in their shoes.
And I discovered that I love to know people from every corner of the world.

Actually I enjoy hitchhiking so much because it gives us the opportunity to talk to the local people of every country I visit and this way getting more inside the culture and letting to know it better.

And while traveling I did some interesting new works too, more handy ones, which made me learn a lot: I learnt how to paint walls (cement and wood), how to hand weeding fields, how to make a sauna, how to saddle and ride a horse, how to harvest grapes and apples, and so many more things.

I like to learn new things and I`m full of energy to work in whatever duty is needed.
Do you have field work to do? I’m in.
Do you need someone to deal with customers or guests? I’m in.
Do you need help with animals? I’m in.
Do you need someone to help in the garden or maybe with the harvest? I’m in
Do you need someone to help you with social media or website? I’m in.
Do you need transcriptions? I’m in.
Do you need someone to make cleaning? I’m in.
Do you need a waitress? I’m in.
Do you need someone to look after your kids? I’m in.
Do you need someone who helps you cook? I’m in.
Do you need someone? I’m totally in!

Everything is new knowledge for me and I would love to use my skills and potential skills to help others.

  • Was noch ...

I think is important to point out that I have 2 nationalities (Uruguay/Spain).
That means I have Uruguayan and European passport, and I do have european residence.

Maybe the most relevant thing about me right now is the fact that I am full time backpacker and blogger (in a very slowly way).
The first big travel my boyfriends and I made was from 2018 to 2020 from Uruguay traveling South America, then Central America and finally North America until U.S.A. hitchhiking (autostop).
Then, after 1.5 years in Uruguay working to save more money, we traveled through Africa (hitchhiking and taking buses).
Next step for me is Asia.

Even if I am just starting in Workaway, I have a lot of recommendations in Couchsurfing, another hospitality website, shared with my previous partner. I´ll let you the profile link here in case you want to check on what the people who hosted us while traveling said about us: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/joywa

And in case you want to read about our adventures around the globe, here´s our website: https://www.viajeinterminable.com/

If you want to make a million questions before hiring me, I will be glad to giving you a million answers, so dont hetsitate about contact me anytime.

    Thank you for the opportunity!
