Hi all!!
I'm Simone, an Italian guy currently living in Paris! I 'll take a sabbatical year starting from October to sloooowly travel from Europe to Central Asia through the Balkans, Turkey and the Caucasus, but first I'll spend some months in the Canary Islands. Going to Central Asia has always been my dream and reading "Sovietistan" by Erika Fatland has only made my desire grow more. This year I travelled for 3 weeks in the Southern Balkans (North Macedonia, Kosovo and Albania) and I could easilty say that it has been one of my best trips so far. It made me realise even more that this kind of travelling, slowly and unplanned, is what really makes me happy.
Canary Islands have been a recent discovery for me, I've been there for the first time at the end of 2021 and I absolutely fell in love with them, especially with Lanzarote... and since then, I've gone back 4 times!!
Both during my stay in the Canary Islands and during my journey to Central Asia I would love to deep dive into the local culture, meet new people and participate to local projects. I've always been passionate about nature and animals and I wold love to take part in projects to protect them. moreover, I'm definitely a social animal and I would love to have an experience in an hostel, it's kind of my dream to have, one day, my own guesthouse/hostel somewhere! In any case, I'm ready to get my hands dirty and learn new skills!
Moreover, I would love to learn new languages, I have some knowledge of Spanish and I studied Russian for one year, I'm keen to improve/learn these ones but also discover new ones!
What else to say about me? Well, I'm also very passionate of photography and I want to take profit of this year to dedicate a lot of time to this passion!
In any case, I can't wait to get my adventure started and make new wonderful connections!!!

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I have a scientific background, as I studied Chemistry at university. Now, it has been 6 years that I'm working in the cosmetic field on Regulatory and Sustainbility topics. If I could resume my job in one sentence, I would say that I fight Greenwashing from the inside!
Before that I also had some summer jobs working in supermarkets and libraries.
I speak fluently 3 languages: Italian, French and English and I have some knowledge of Russian and Spanish.
In my life I took part to several volunteering projects:
- I spent 3 years as a volunteer for the Italian Red Cross helping homeless people in the center of Milan. We offered whatever support we can from food to clothes or just a nice reconforting chat.
- In 2015 I spent 3 weeks in Cambodia with a small local organisation helping the local community of a small village in the outskirts of Siem Reap. I alternated between teaching English to the village kids and building the wooden walls of the school.
- In the last 6 years, through my company, I managed to take part in volunteering days dedicated to local organisation. I've always chosen the protection of the environment and I took part in projects to clean rivers and the sea from rubbish.
One of my bigeest passion is animals and taking care of them. When I was younger I had 2 ferrets with me and recently I jumped on every opportunity I had to take care of friends' animals when they were away. I spent 1 year learning horseback riding and it gave the opportunity to grow closer to horses.
During this year I would really love to use my skills to help locally but also to learn new ones! I would like to focus to projects around the environment, like animal care or farming, but I'm of course open to everything!!
