Hi! I'm Piet, 25 years old and enjoy workawaying as a new leap in my life since ApriI this year. I have finished my dual study program in engineering this January and decided not to continue in the typical working world, but to discover a little more of the world. After school, I worked for 6 years in industrial companies and learned for myself that my passion for craftsmanship, nature, forests, plants and animals (and a sustainable way of life) cannot be satisfied by the few hours after work and at the weekend. At my first workaway stops I felt so much more alive, enjoyed the craftsman's work, enjoyed working mostly outdoors and getting to know new people and places. That's why I'm really much looking forward to the next experiences yet to come in the future.

I have experience in many craft activities due to my professional training as a mechatronic engineer. But you can read more about that below :)
I'm also used to gardening since I was little and I get excited every year when it's February and March and the first preparations for the year begin. Working in the garden has given me a connection to nature and I love the physical work, but I can also get excited about small things like the first cotyledons or watching insects. :) Here I have been interested in the philosophy and approaches of permaculture for some time now and last year I gained my first experience in alternative garden design based on permaculture.

For my time as a Workawayer, I would like to be able to join an environment with a friendly or familiar atmosphere. Ideally, I would like to find a place where I am needed for outdoor work and where I can contribute my previous experience and skills, but also learn a lot of new things, especially in connection with nature, gardening, farming, DIY projects and a sustainable lifestyle.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

After school and before studying, I trained as a mechatronics engineer. Thanks to my training, I have very good manual skills (mechanics and electrics) and enjoy planning, tinkering and building. I've been driving an old VW Bulli since 2021, which I converted into a camper van myself. During the reconstruction I discovered working with wood for myself and since then I have realized many other wood projects for myself or friends. If I were asked whether I prefer to work with wood or metal I would clearly prefer to work with wood.

Was noch ...

For the past year, music has become a bigger part of my life and I have started singing and learning piano and guitar. Even though I don't feel comfortable enough yet to share it openly with everyone, I would be very happy to meet people who also enjoy making music and want to have little jam sessions together :)
