Hi, I am Marie (28), a curious person who has spent the last four years working as a designer for a water treatment company. While I've enjoyed the stability and structure of that life, I'm now ready to trade some of the routine for new experiences, fresh perspectives, and a little more spontaneity.

While volunteering, I'd love to discover different ways of living, improve my language skills, and learn new things—especially about natural building, woodworking and ecological farming. I'm excited to learn from people and places. Ready to enjoy life's little pleasures and unexpected adventures.

When I was 16 years old, I spend one week in Normandië in France together with a friend. We did some daily tasks like cooking, berry picking, weeding, etc.. This was my first helpX experience. Four years later, I spend two weeks in the south of Portugal, near Carrapateira. Here, I mainly worked in the vegetable garden: watering the plants, harvesting, collecting horse shit (very nice ;)), planting seeds, etc. Although, I helped with barking acacia trees to use it as the base for a straw house. This work was tough but fun!
In december 2021, I spended five weeks with a couple in the north of Portugal where I helped with the olive harvest and some daily tasks (drying fruits, cooking, seeding, place new roofing, make wooden spoons, etc).

I can greatly enjoy good food. During summer, I practice surfing and I like the chill athmospere around it. Sunny days are my best days! :)

This is a great place! Roberto and Tiziana are wonderfull hosts, they have a big trust in the volunteers. There is a kitchen, saloon and sleeping room for volunteers so you can cook and eat whenever you feel hungry. Eventhough we ate most of the time together (some pasta), which was delicious and fun. Vom Workawayer für Host (Help with gardening and ...)

I spent five wonderfull weeks at this place. It is such a cozy house and Angelika & Christof makes it even more pleasant. They gave me a warm welcome and I immediately felt home. We got on well, so well that the villagers thought I was your daughter. That was a funny gossip ;)

The first two weeks were I helped with the olive harvest were … read more completelly different from the other weeks. Honestly, picking olives did not seem the most interesting task to me on beforehand but I had to change my vision about it. It was a great experience! We picked always with different friends of Angelika and Christof. All of them are fantastic people with a warm heart. The olive harvest is a perfect opportunity for long chats, enjoying the sun and the beautiful surroundings. We worked from 10 a.m. to 4/5 p.m. but when the clock struck 12 it was time for lunch break where we all enjoyed delicious food. Angelika can cook wonderfull, it was hard to stop eating, I definitally gained some weight ;) I learned a lot about the production process of olive oil and it will never taste the same as before :)

The other three weeks were more relaxed and less structurized. Each day was different from the last. During breakfast we discussed which tasks could be done. Depending on what you were in the mood for, you could say so. I helped with cooking, walking Maja (the dog), planting vegetables, weeding, drying fruits and together with Christof I have installed new roofing.

Angelika and Christof do not count the number of working hours, it is up to you to keep track of this and to indicate when you want time off. It is very spontaneous! They like to spend time together. We played every evening a game and because I was there during the advent period, the winner earned a small present for ex. a 'merci chocolat'. Always a very cosy moment with romantic candle light ;) During the days off, Christof took us (me and the other volunteer) for rock climbing, we visited a hippie marked, made wooden spoons, went with Angelika to friends to bake chrismas cookies and so on. If you like to be surrounded by warm people in a calm athmosphere (a village with 50 inhabitants), this is the place to be.

I had a wonderfull time, thanks for everything!! I hope I will manage to pass by one day. I wish you all the best, I will never forget you both! Your daughter Marie ;)
