Hey! My name is Margaux, I'm from Seattle, Washington, USA . After hearing about the positive, impactful experiences my friends have had slow traveling with work away experiences, I'm finally in a moment to explore and learn from these experiences myself! I am a recent college graduate and have finished a year-long job at a public health non-profit organization, saving up money to travel. I am excited to return to the Andes to grow, learn, and share culture and life with others. During university, I studied abroad in South America--5 months in Ecuador and 5 months in Argentina. During my time in Ecuador, I established a deep connection con la tierra de los Andes and I have been eager to reconnect and conocer más de ella. I was especially called to Colombia for its beautiful landscapes, kind people, fresh food, and fun music and dance. I enjoy connecting with people from different parts of the world over my love for nature, animals, and culture. I have an enormous appreciation for art--music, dance, creations.
Hola! Me llamo Margaux y soy de los EEUU. Después de escuchar sobre las experiencias positivas e impactantes que mis amigues han tenido viajando lentamente con WorkAway, ¡finalmente estoy en un momento para explorar y aprender de estas experiencias yo misma! Recién gradué de la universidad y terminé un trabajo de un año para un ONG de salud pública, ahorrando dinero para viajar. Estoy emocionada de regresar a los Andes para crecer, aprender y compartir cultura y vida con otros. Durante universidad, estudié en el extranjero en Sudamérica-- 5 meses en Ecuador y 5 meses en Argentina. Durante mi tiempo en Ecuador, establecí una conexion profunda con la tierra de los Andes y he estado ansiosa por reconectarme y conocer más de ella. Me sentí especialmente atraída por Colombia por sus hermosos paisajes, gente amable, comida fresca y música y baile divertidos. Disfruto conectarme con personas de diferentes partes del mundo a través de mi amor por la naturaleza, los animales y la cultura. Tengo un enorme aprecio por el arte: la música, la danza, las creaciones.

Overall, I am a hard worker and an adaptable, quick learner. I am great at collaborating with others, but I also succeed at managing projects independently.
As for the specific skills and experience I can provide:
- I have an advanced fluency in Spanish (although I recognize it's a lifelong journey of learning).
- I enjoy caring for and teaching children. I worked as a horseback riding instructor and camp counselor for five years, teaching lessons to children ages 6-17 years old (also lots of cleaning experience from this job). I also have 10+ years of experience babysitting.
- I enjoy and have much experience caring for animals. I mainly have experience with dogs, cats, and horses but I love all animals and would happily take the opportunity to learn to care for other animals. Working as a horseback riding instructor for five years, I can support any needs you may have for cleaning, grooming, and training horses or even teaching lessons/leading trail rides.
- I can cook and serve food. I have volunteered in several soup kitchens and a food recovery organization, cooking and serving food to vulnerable populations.
- I have some experience teaching English. I assisted instructors in teaching ESL lessons to refugees at the organization World Relief, which offers refugee resettlement services.
- I have some experience caring for plants and installing irrigation/greenhouses. I volunteered with an urban agriculture organization in Quito for a month. I have volunteered with local organizations removing invasive species and planting native species. I have tended my own personal garden.
- I have some experience in construction--I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for several weeks in New Orleans (USA) constructing houses destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
En general, soy una gran trabajadora, aprendo rápido, y soy muy adaptable. Soy muy buena colaborando con otros, pero también tengo éxito en la gestión de proyectos de forma independiente.

- Tengo un nivel avanzado de español (aunque reconozco que el aprendizaje dura toda la vida).
- Disfruto cuidando y enseñando a los niños. Trabajé como instructora de equitación y consejera de campamento de verano durante cinco años, dando clases a niños de entre 6 y 17 años. También tengo más de 10 años de experiencia cuidando niños.
- Disfruto y tengo mucha experiencia cuidando animales. Tengo experiencia principalmente con perros, gatos y caballos, pero amo a todos los animales y con gusto aprovecharía la oportunidad de aprender a cuidar a otros animales. Trabajando como instructora de equitación durante cinco años, puedo ayudar con cualquier necesidad que puedas tener de limpieza, aseo y entrenamiento de caballos o incluso dar clases/guiar paseos a caballo.
