Hi!

My name is Madle but you can call me Madlen :)

I am a former humanitarian (worked in Ukraine, Kenya, Jordan, Armenia, Georgia). I have studied and worked in the field of journalism, communication and marketing, but my heart belongs to film production. I have worked for the biggest news and media houses in Estonia, and leaded broadcasts in radio.

What else? I adore hiking and outdoors, I love animals and I know a lot about (wild) plants and herbs as I grew up in the countryside!

I have volunteered a lot - in Europe, Asia and Africa. I have taught English, made promotion videos, leaded workshops, designed banners, maintained guesthouses and hostels, guided tours and a lot more! I love every task which is challenging and giving me an opportunity to develop myself, and help out others.

I'm not afraid of any (outdoor) work nor harsh weather! I adore winter!

I love creative tasks, and I enjoy cooking as well! I have also written a book and produced a documentary movie, if this experience would help someone I'm glad to share!

Enough about me from this side but! Besides the tasks, I would love to get to know YOU and your amazing culture and your language and your community and your hobbies and your stories...

She came to a Family who were very sceptical to workaway and volunteers. We had not done this before, so she was our first.
But we could feel the calm energy around her right away, and she just melted in our Family.

Vom Workawayer (Madle) für Host (Help with housekeeping, dogs ...)

Two weeks with this family filled my heart with warmth and peace and it was hard to leave them. It felt like I met my second family and I couldn't be more grateful that our paths crossed like that in this little world. No words can describe how special those people are to me, and how great was the time we had.

I got to learn a lot about Sami… read more culture, traditions and life-style. Elle and Per Inge explained me a lot and answered to all my endless questions, we had great conversations about everything, which I'm truly missing. They also showed me around and I got to go to their reindeer herd by snowmobile. I can't really describe how magical was to stand in the middle of the herd, see the endless tundra and hear the bells around the reindeer's necks. You can really connect with the nature (and yourself) while out there.

My main task was to take care of three little puppies of one of the house dogs (feeding, cleaning and of course cuddling). I was also happy to prepare dinners and bake cakes (kids are going to love you) as well as helping with cleaning. The whole family is super relaxed and it's easy to adapt.

I was also happy to borrow the skis and go out to the wild nature almost every day. They have amazing trails just around the corner and I even managed to see some mooses and reindeers along the way, besides wonderful sunsets while skiing to the hytta and beyond.

In Karasjok you can also take some nice walks, it's a calm little town with some nice museums and Sami Parliament. I happened to be there during Finnmarkslopet (European longest dog race) so I got to cheer on the racers and see how they are doing in the check point.

Last but not least, the kids. They positively surprised me every day, we had a lot of fun while playing, baking a cake and talking in English-Sami-Estonian language. They are super sweet and I miss them a lot. I also happened to be there while the whole family was preparing for the oldest daughter's confirmation and it was interesting for me to learn about this tradition as well. It's just a pity that I can't be there while she is having her special day but I hope it's going to be the best for her! ;)

Our hearts are like unfinished globes, getting more detailed and bigger after each trip. Some time ago I didn’t have Karasjok on mine, now it’s just right there. My heart got bigger in the size of Karasjok, surrounded by the feeling of happiness.

I remember when I first entered to Ramil's hostel my only thought was "wooow :D" and I immediately felt like at home. How to describe my experience at this hostel? Sooo it's actually like an apple - it looks good and it actually is good :d Aigul is a really inspiring and hardworking host, but the little time we spent together was great. I LOVED all the tasks i had and spending time with the staff and other travellers is amazing. So, apple-ause to the hostel :d

vom Host (Come and help at one of the ...) für Workawayer (Madle)

Madeline has done a great amount of work for the hostel! In addition to pictures, she did some really cool videos which are one of the most popular posts on facebook :) She also helped my younger sister with her English studies which I appreciated as well. We shared a meal, shared stories - all in all it was a great experience!
