Hey everyone! Thanks for stopping by my profile.

I’m Madi, a 26-year-old from West Chester, Pennsylvania. I’m passionate about traveling, cooking, hiking, and meeting people from all walks of life. One of my favorite ways to connect with others is through food—whether that’s putting together a charcuterie board, hosting a picnic, or cooking dinner for friends. I believe some of the best conversations happen around a table.

I graduated from Temple University with a degree in Real Estate and have spent the past couple of years pursuing work that allows me to connect with people. I own a charcuterie business and currently work full-time as a dog walker and pet sitter, caring for dogs of all ages, sizes, and personalities. So if you have a dog, I will absolutely want to see pictures! I hope to continue finding meaningful ways to give back to the communities I visit, even if it’s something as simple as sharing a smile or lending a helping hand.

Travel has become one of the biggest parts of my life. I’m always looking for opportunities to experience new cultures, challenge myself, and step outside my comfort zone. Whether it’s hiking through the mountains, wandering local markets, swimming in crystal-clear water, or simply sitting somewhere beautiful and taking it all in, I love slowing down and appreciating the world around me.

I’m always up for an adventure. I love saying “yes” to new experiences and meeting people who do the same.

I am the owner of a charcuterie business, where I’ve developed skills in food styling, event setup, customer relations, and creating beautiful displays for both gatherings and photography. I genuinely enjoy bringing people together through food and helping make special occasions memorable.
When i’m not arranging cheeses i’m hanging out with pups! Animals are where my heart is, I love love love them. I have experience with puppies to my senior dogs, who are extra special to me, as I had a 16 year old pup.
As an ex barista I love serving others. Cooking and baking are my absolute favorite pastime!

I am looking to expand my hobbies and try new things while traveling. I am super interested in learning more about foraging and farming. I care a lot about my health and contribute that to clean eating. I want to play a role in educating others when I return home and share my new knowledge. I want to learn more about my body and what feels good for me, learning more about yoga would be a big plus!

Vom Workawayer für Host (Help in our new community ...)

This was my first workaway experience and I was excited to get to use my business degree to contribute positively to hotel logistics, social media, and marketing as advertised and discussed. I was aware I was going to have some cleaning and reception shifts, but over my four weeks at the hotel I was never even given access to any social media … read more accounts let alone any sort of marketing. This is due to the random firing of the manager discussed in previous reviews. All of the previous reviews discuss staff who no longer work with the hotel or are not presently there. The previous manager clearly demonstrated he cared about the safety and happiness of the volunteers, even picking us up from late night shifts at the hostel about a 7 minute walk down the road, or paying for our taxi. When the new management came in, everything changed. He told us we would be fine and he was too tired to pick us up, always complaining about how tired he was. The last manager got us food whenever we ran out, keeping us stocked and healthy.

With new management getting food was a challenge, having to basically beg for food and he would not supply more until we were completely out. We had a day we had nothing but beans, only allowing new food once a week. Food in Costa Rica is also not cheap so going out to buy your own supplies added up quickly. It was frustrating being told I was able to do marketing and forced over 75% of the time to do deep cleaning.

New management came up with a plan to deep clean every room, 42 at the hotel and 10 at the hostel, even though it was low season and most rooms were not being used. Since we are in the jungle, rooms do not stay clean long. Bugs come in, lizards poop on the bed, so volunteers would be assigned the same rooms day after day, essentially just giving us busy work. When I discussed with Randel that I felt it was unfair as this was not what I signed up for he listened politely and then told me I could do it or leave, not attempting any sort of compromise.

Beyond this the volunteer dorm is nothing extravagant, pretty gross with them not cleaning when new volunteers came in, 90% of things in the kitchen are half functional with only three burners on the stove working, the oven frequently turning off, no handles on pots and pans, and volunteers having to buy cutting boards and other supplies.

When I left I moved next door to dogsit and I watched things get worse. They fired one girl who was supposed to stay another month, calling her "contaminated" for being trained by previous management. After that people began leaving early because of how bad it was. They send a generic copied and pasted messages that there will be up to 20 volunteers there. When I got there there was 5 other volunteers and when I left there was two. Manuel Antonio is a beautiful area I highly recommend, but I would not recommend this workaway.
